RESCHEDULED! STEM Day and STEM Fair – Thanks to today’s snowstorm, our fantabulous STEM Day and STEM Fair have been rescheduled to next Thursday, March 15! We have an exciting group of wonderful volunteer speakers from a variety of STEM fields who will be visiting with our students on the morning of March 15. In the afternoon, classrooms will be finishing up their STEM projects and setting up their displays for the evening STEM Fair. Families are invited to return to school from 5:30-7:30 PM to visit the classrooms and see the projects, as well as visit with our STEM guests in the hallways, and do some fun STEM experiments! Please join us!

Hot Lunch Ordering – Ordering for April’s Hot Lunch is open! Order on from March 1 through midnight on March 15! No late orders are accepted, so be sure to order early! Also, be sure to go all the way through the checkout process….if you don’t receive a confirmation email, you have NOT ordered any lunches!


Forgotten Lunches – Just a friendly reminder that students who forget their lunch receive a bagel and cream cheese, along with any available sides. To make it fair for everyone, there are no exceptions. Please do not count on your child receiving the Hot Lunch of the day as we only order the number of meals we need to accommodate those who order through Boonli. A charge for the meal will be added to your Boonli account. This long-standing policy helps us to monitor inventory and keep our costs down. Thanks so much for your help with our Hot Lunch program!

NEW! Chess Club News -- The Chess Club will hold its annual tournament in March. The tournament commences on March 16 and expected to run through to end of April. It is a sportive fun tournament, with games played on Fridays during regular club times as usual on a point based semi league system. We encourage everyone to participate and try to arrive by 7:50 AM. All the Club attendees on those days will be tournament participants by default. Absentees on any of the days will lose points but can catch up on other days. All participants will receive a participation certificate and could bag some small prizes.


Over the last fifteen weeks, the Club introduced basic Chess rules and movement of various pieces. At this time all participants should know how to set up the board, how the pieces move, think and play. Kids learned to focus, think and analyze while having fun with the game playing with other kids. The age window of learning these skills is short and it would be great for parents to talk to kids about how they are playing and encourage them. Research shows that the game helps with analytical skills and helps with academics.

UPDATED! Lifetouch Spring Portraits Lifetouch will return on Wednesday, March 21 for our Spring Portraits. This is a Dress UP Day…all students should wear their Easter finest! No pre-orders are taken for these portraits and parents will receive proof copies of the photos later in April. This is a one-time event, so there will be no retakes for absent students. Flyers from Lifetouch were distributed to students today…check those backpacks!


NEW! Safety Reminder After recent tragic events, school safety is on everyone’s mind. We would like to remind parents and volunteers that ONLY designated school employees should open doors to the school and the church hall AT ANY TIME, even if the person is familiar to you. Controlling access to the building is of primary importance to keeping our students safe and we must insist on cooperation from everyone! Thank you for your help!


NEW! Standardized Testing -- The Diocese has contracted with another company to replace the Terra Nova test.  The new test is called NWEA. NWEA® is a research-based, not-for-profit organization that supports students and educators worldwide by creating assessment solutions that precisely measure growth and proficiency—and provide insights to help tailor instruction. For 40 years, NWEA has developed Pre-K–12 assessments and professional learning offerings to help advance all students along their optimal learning paths. Their tools are trusted by educators in 145 countries and more than half the schools in the US. We are very pleased with this choice. Testing will happen for grades 2 through 6 the week of April 9 to 13 with make-ups the following week. More information will be shared with parents as we approach the testing dates.


NEW! Yearbook News The Yearbook Order/Personal Messages/Sponsorship information packet was distributed in the paper News before vacation…and the deadline for ordering is THIS Friday, March 9! The Yearbook is a wonderful memento of the school year and includes photos of ALL the students! Yearbooks are an affordable $20 and may be personalized with your child’s name for an additional $4.00. Personal messages to your child can be purchased for $10 each. Family and business sponsorships are also available. Check out the important ordering instructions HERE!


NEW! Girls Mites Basketball -- The Girls Mites finished out their regular-season yesterday by beating Saint Catherine’s 26 to 9. Lizzie Marino let the team 10 points including two 3 pointers. Ava Blomquist, Hailey Corriveau and Audrey Murrin each had 4 and Lexi Lizotte and Ella Graham had 2. Shea Hansen and Jenna Frost lead the team with outstanding defense. The girls finished up their season with a record of nine wins and two losses. Those wins included state championship game which one them a bid to New England in Connecticut this year. This will be the third year in a row at Saint Chris mites Have won a bid to the tournament. A big congratulations to the girls!


Financial Aid Applications for 2018-2019 – Applications for Financial Aid for the 2018-2019 school year are now open. All oldest and only students were sent home with a packet of information regarding the Financial Aid process before Christmas vacation. Please read the information carefully. All families interested in financial aid MUST follow the packet instructions or aid will not be given.

Special Note: Financial aid from the Children’s Scholarship Fund is awarded on a first come, first served basis, so parents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to maximize their award potential!


PARISH SUPPORT -- If your child is entering grades 1 through 6 and you are an active member of a parish within the Diocese of Manchester, you may be eligible for Parish Support.  The Diocesan Support Program requires the timely identification of families who meet the minimum diocesan support criteria and qualify for the supported student tuition rate.


The minimum support criteria include:

1. registration in a parish or mission;

2. contributor of record in a parish or mission; and,

3. active participation in the life of a parish or mission.


All three criteria must be met and verified by the Pastor as indicated by his signature on the Supported Student Form. The form should also be stamped with the parish seal.  It is the responsibility of the parent, after the signature of the pastor is obtained, to return the signed form to the school by March l, 2018.


Supported Student forms are available from Jackie Langenfeld at the school office.


If your child received the supported student rate for the 2017-18 school year, you do not need to fill out another Supported Student Form.  The names of those students currently supported will be forwarded to the pastors, and the pastors will notify the school whether or not the student is still eligible for support.  The school will then notify the parents of the pastor’s decision.


After Care on Fridays during Lent – The parish is once again holding their terrific Fish Dinners on Fridays during Lent, so our After Care will be relocated to 1st grade on all Fridays during Lent. This will run through March 23. Please go to the 1st grade doors to pick up your children!


Stations of the Cross – Our weekly observance of the Stations of the Cross have begun. Please check the calendar above for upcoming dates and times.


Private Tours – Our next Open House isn’t until May, but that doesn’t mean potential families can’t come visit us and see what great things St. Christopher School offers them! We love giving private tours to any family interested in joining the St. Chris community! Private tours with the wonderful Jackie Langenfeld can be scheduled for most any time the school is open and we LOVE to have prospective students visit us for a Shadow Day in the classroom! To arrange, please have the prospective families call Jackie at 882-774, ext. 114.


St. Patrick’s Day – We’ll be wearin’ the green on our St. Patrick’s Day Free Dress day on Friday, March …and attending mass at 9:15 AM! 2nd grade will be preparing the mass that day, so please join us!


Diocesan Excellence in Education Awards: The successes of our Catholic schools and their students would not be possible without the selfless support of committed educators, administrators, clergy, and lay partners in the community. This year, the Diocese of Manchester is holding its second annual Recognizing Excellence Awards Gala at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord on Thursday, June 21, 2018. All are invited to attend this exciting event to officially honor the School Leader of the Year, Clergy Member of the Year, Community Partner of the Year and most especially our Teacher of the Year.

Last year, St. Chris was blessed to have Ms. Mary Lou Wefers as a finalist for the Teacher of the Year, as well as nominations for Karen Narkis for Teacher of the Year and Mrs. Clarke as School Leader of the Year! Used Book Sale – It may seem a looong ways away, but our Parent Group wanted to remind parents to save used books, cd’s, and dvd’s for the Used Book and Uniform Sale in May! If you are doing a little after-Christmas cleaning (or pre-Spring cleaning?), please keep the sale in mind! We accept donations of both children’s and adult’s book and media. All books and media are sold for 50¢ each and all students will visit the sale! Donations can be brought to the school AFTER April vacation!


Rivier University International Spring Festival – Senora Bichrest shares that Rivier University will hold its International Spring Festival on March 23 at 6:30 PM at the Memorial Building Event Hall on campus. The festival will include international culture, food, dance, karaoke and celebration of unity through global presentations from India, China, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Uganda and more. K of C Lenten Friday Fish Dinners -- Knights of Columbus from St. Patrick and St. Christopher Parishes will be serving Baked Fish Dinners on Fridays during Lent, through March 23.  The dinners are served from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at St. Christopher’s Church Hall.  The menu includes a generous portion of baked fish, baked potato, vegetable, coleslaw, rolls, beverage and selections from our famous dessert table.  Cost is $11.  Pizza is available at $2.00.  Take-out orders can be placed by calling 717-4980. Our snow cancellation policy is that dinners will be cancelled when Nashua schools are cancelled due to inclement weather.  Stations of the Cross and Confessions are held in the church following the dinners.
