Auction News! – The 14th Annual St. Christopher School Auction… “Under the Sea: Dive into St. Chris”…will take place on March 24, 2018!

 

NEW! Tickets: Invitations are out and tickets are on sale now! Last year’s event was a complete sell-out, so be sure to purchase your tickets ASAP before they are all gone! You can purchase tickets by returning your RSVP card with payment to the school, or you can go online HERE.

 

NEW! Table Reservations: Auction seats are preassigned…so the sooner you get your RSVP in, the easier it is for us to seat you with your friends! Have a large group who wants to sit together? Auction Committee Meetings: Our Auction planning is in high gear! Many hands make light work…please consider joining us at either of our February meetings on February 9 and February 23. Both meetings take place at 8:00 AM in the Church Hall!

 

NEW! Marketing Survey Our very, very short Marketing survey (2 questions!) will remain open until next Friday, February 16. Your responses to the survey HERE will help us to understand what qualities new parents are looking for in a new school and why you love our school as a current parent. NEW! Registrations OVERDUE -- If you have not yet completed the online registration for any child who will be a student at St. Christopher School in Fall 2019, your registration is now overdue and your child is at risk of losing his or her seat. We are currently drafting our budget for the next school year and tuition is based on the number of enrolled students for 2019. Because late registrations can not be counted towards our enrollment numbers in the budget, every late registration causes our tuition rate to be higher. Financial Aid Applications for 2018-2019 – Applications for Financial Aid for the 2018-2019 school year are now open. All oldest and only students were sent home with a packet of information regarding the Financial Aid process before Christmas vacation. Please read the information carefully. All families interested in financial aid MUST follow the packet instructions or aid will not be given.

Special Note: Financial aid from the Children’s Scholarship Fund is awarded on a first come, first served basis, so parents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to maximize their award potential!

 

PARISH SUPPORT -- If your child is entering grades 1 through 6 and you are an active member of a parish within the Diocese of Manchester, you may be eligible for Parish Support.  The Diocesan Support Program requires the timely identification of families who meet the minimum diocesan support criteria and qualify for the supported student tuition rate.  The minimum support criteria include:

1. registration in a parish or mission;

2. contributor of record in a parish or mission; and,

3. active participation in the life of a parish or mission.

All three criteria must be met and verified by the Pastor as indicated by his signature on the Supported Student Form. The form should also be stamped with the parish seal.  It is the responsibility of the parent, after the signature of the pastor is obtained, to return the signed form to the school by March l, 2018.

 

Supported Student forms are available from Jackie Langenfeld at the school office.

If your child received the supported student rate for the 2017-18 school year, you do not need to fill out another Supported Student Form.  The names of those students currently supported will be forwarded to the pastors, and the pastors will notify the school whether or not the student is still eligible for support.  The school will then notify the parents of the pastor’s decision.

 

NEW! Safety NoteSafety First! When coming into the building, please do not hold or open the door for anyone…even if you know them. We have noticed an increase of individuals entering the building by “piggybacking” on another person who has been buzzed into the school. While it may seem rude to close the door on another adult right behind you, it is most important for the safety of our students. Only school staff and faculty should buzz people in or open doors. This includes Hot Lunch deliveries and After Care pick-up. Many thanks for helping us to keep our school, and most especially our students, safe!

 

Valentines Day Free Dress – Because Ash Wednesday falls on Valentines Day this year, we will be holding our annual Valentines Free Dress Day on February 13! Students are welcome to wear red, pink and/or white that day. Please keep Parent/Student Handbook dress guidelines in mind when picking out your child’s outfit for the day!

 

NEW! After Care on Fridays during Lent The parish is once again holding their terrific Fish Dinners on Fridays during Lent, so our After Care will be relocated to 1st grade on all Fridays during Lent. This will begin February 16 and run through March 23. Please go to the 1st grade doors to pick up your children!

 

NEW! Winter Clothing – As a reminder, every class, as well as After Care, goes outside twice each day, as long as the temperature is 20 degrees…so please be sure that your child is dressed accordingly! Many students are coming to school with light jackets, no gloves, and no hat…and they are freezing out there. We know it can be a battle with some kids, but every child needs to be ready for winter weather! Thanks!

 

Ash Wednesday and Lent – Lent begins next week, with Ash Wednesday falling on February 14. Our Ash Wednesday mass will take place at 9:15 AM and will be prepared by 5V…all parents are welcome to attend!

In addition, we will begin our Lenten weekly observance of the Stations of the Cross on Friday, February 16 at 2:15 PM in the Church. Stations will also take place on other Fridays during Lent….please check the Wednesday News weekly for the specific time.

 

Parking Reminder – Parents who pick up children in the upper parish parking lot (inside Nashua riders) are reminded to keep the handicapped parking spots clear unless you have a valid handicapped parking placard. In recent weeks, a parent who has a valid handicapped placard has been unable to use the spots when needed. Thank you!

 

Box Tops -- Calling all Box Tops! Please submit the Box Tops your family has been collecting. Our next submission is right around the corner and every clipped Box Top earns money for St. Chris. The Box Top collection bin located next to the computer classroom. Many thanks!

 

NEW! Private Tours Our next Open House isn’t until May, but that doesn’t mean potential families can’t come visit us and see what great things St. Christopher School offers them! We love giving private tours to any family interested in joining the St. Chris community! Private tours with the wonderful Jackie Langenfeld can be scheduled for most any time the school is open and we LOVE to have prospective students visit us for a Shadow Day in the classroom! February NO SCHOOL Days – Mark your calendars! We will have NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19 for Presidents Day and February 24 through March 4 for February Vacation!

 

Yearbook Group Photos – All school groups (band, basketball, altar servers, etc.) will have their photos taken for the Yearbook on Tuesday, February 20. Photos begin promptly at 9:00 AM, so if your child is involved in a school group, please be sure he or she arrives to school on time. There will be no retakes of group photos if a child is absent.

 

Annual Fund – 120 donors have contributed to the Annual Fund so far this year…..thank you to all who have participated! Donations have ranged from $1 up to $2,500 and we are grateful for each and every gift!  All donations, no matter the size, are important, so we ask you to prayerfully consider supporting the Annual Fund at whatever financial level you are comfortable. We’d love to have 100% participation from our families! Support of the Annual Fund on a yearly basis is vital to providing the ongoing high academic standards of St. Chris…it is what allows us to go above and beyond and nurture our students to become lifelong learners and leaders!

NEW! Diocesan Excellence in Education Awards: The successes of our Catholic schools and their students would not be possible without the selfless support of committed educators, administrators, clergy, and lay partners in the community. This year, the Diocese of Manchester is holding its second annual Recognizing Excellence Awards Gala at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord on Thursday, June 21, 2018. All are invited to attend this exciting event to officially honor the School Leader of the Year, Clergy Member of the Year, Community Partner of the Year and most especially our Teacher of the Year.

 

Last year, St. Chris was blessed to have Ms. Mary Lou Wefers as a finalist for the Teacher of the Year, as well as nominations for Karen Narkis for Teacher of the Year and Mrs. Clarke as School Leader of the Year! NEW! Used Book Sale – It may seem a looong ways away, but our Parent Group wanted to remind parents to save used books, cd’s, and dvd’s for the Used Book and Uniform Sale in May! If you are doing a little after-Christmas cleaning (or pre-Spring cleaning?), please keep the sale in mind! We accept donations of both children’s and adult’s book and media. All books and media are sold for 50¢ each and all students will visit the sale! Donations can be brought to the school AFTER April vacation!

 

Hot Lunch Ordering – Ordering for March’s February Hot Lunch is open! Please be sure to place your order before midnight on the 15 th as we can not accept any late orders. Thanks!

 

Ash Wednesday Hot Lunch -- The Hot Lunch offered for Ash Wednesday, February 14, is Apple Pancakes and Sausage. Please know that sausage will not be served that day in observance of Ash Wednesday norms. Home fries will replace the sausage.

 

NEW! Cafeteria Day Our next Cafeteria Day will be Tuesday, February 13! All students will be eating lunch together in the Church Hall. Fun, fun, fun!

NEW! K of C Lenten Friday Fish Dinners -- Knights of Columbus from St. Patrick and St. Christopher Parishes will be serving Baked Fish Dinners on Fridays during Lent, February 16 through March 23.  The dinners are served from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at St. Christopher’s Church Hall.  The menu includes a generous portion of baked fish, baked potato, vegetable, coleslaw, rolls, beverage and selections from our famous dessert table.  Cost is $11.  Pizza is available at $2.00.  Take-out orders can be placed by calling 717-4980. Our snow cancellation policy is that dinners will be cancelled when Nashua schools are cancelled due to inclement weather.  Stations of the Cross and Confessions are held in the church following the dinners.
