Thank you! As is our tradition each week, we start the school year off with a few thank you’s! Special accolades go to several of our community who took time out of their summer to help us in one way or another:

  • To Ellen Valade who came in to school for a simple meeting…and ended up staying to stuff many Alumni newsletter envelopes!
  • To Katie Graybill for personally contacting many of our priest and religious friends to invite them to attend our annual Vocation Day in October!
  • To Marilyn Moore, Mary Beth Allen, Melissa Emond, and Mary Lou Wefers for working on new teacher orientation and mentoring programs.
  • To Sally Mitchell for her extra special Admissions/Recruitment work.

 

NEW! Welcome Back from the School Board - The St. Chris School Board welcomes the students, teachers, and parents back to school!  We are looking forward to a productive and fun school year.  The School Board is comprised of parents, parents of alumni, and local business leaders.  Our role is to advise the principal on various matters pertaining to the management and development of the school.  We are fortunate to have a strong and thriving school and one of our goals is to keep it that way and to help make St. Chris even better for everyone.  To understand what we are doing as a Board, we post our monthly meeting minutes on the St. Chris web site and send them home in the monthly paper News.  We are always available to answer questions and to hear your thoughts and concerns.  On behalf of School Board Members Cindy Clarke (Principal), Father Kelley, Fred Daniels (Chair), Nick Dahl, Tricia Casey, Todd DeRego, Tom Nardone, Mark Roy, Heather Griebel, David Savino, Corrine Zeman, Paula McLellan, Carol Fiore, and Marta Nissen, we welcome you and look forward to seeing you throughout the school year.

 

Labor Day Vacation – Don’t forget that we will not be in school on Friday, September 1 and Monday, September 4! Enjoy the last few days of summer!

 

First Day for PreK – Our littlest students will join us for their first full day on Tuesday, September 5.

 

Free Dress – No uniforms until after Labor Day! Shorts are okay, but please be sure that your child’s clothing follows the guidelines set out in the Handbook, including NO tank tops/spaghetti straps/tube tops/halter tops, NO clothing displaying rock groups/violence/inappropriate sayings, NO extra-large or baggy shirts or pants, and NO shorts/skirts/skorts that are more than 2-3 inches above the knee. Morning Drop-off – Please understand that the first few weeks of the morning drop-off are unusually busy and sometimes a bit confusing. We ask everyone’s patience as new parents learn our routine and veteran parents get back into the swing of things! Please take a moment to review the following procedures to keep us all going safely in the RIGHT directions:

 

Pre-K and Kdg – ONLY these students should be dropped off in the REAR of the school. (The only exception would be those older students who carpool with PreK or Kdg students).

  • Please enter the back parking lot via the entrance closest to the school building and pull up to the top of the stairway, perpendicular to the parking spaces.
  • You should not park or exit your car. Teachers will meet your car and help your student out of the car.
  • Once your student has exited your car, please proceed forward and then circle around to exit the parking lot via the exit closest to the dumpsters.
  • To avoid congestion on Brookline St., please go straight out of the parking lot down Hill St.

 

Grades 1-6 – These students should be dropped off along the sidewalk in FRONT of the school.

  • Parents should turn onto Cushing Ave via Manchester St. ONLY and pull as far forward in front of the school as possible.
  • Your child should exit the car immediately without your assistance so that you may move on as quickly as possible and make room for other parents behind you.
  • For safety and security reasons, please do not park your car in front of the school or attempt to have your child cross the street from the opposite direction (even with your assistance).
  • In addition, students should not exit your car into the teacher’s parking lot…please wait until you have pulled up to the sidewalk.

 

Afternoon Pick-Up – Again, the first few weeks will be very busy in the parking lots…please be patient! The following rules are very important for student safety:

 

Back Parking Lot: This area is for Pre-K and Kdg pick-up, as well as those students who live OUTSIDE Nashua. (Students who carpool with Pre-K and Kdg students will exit to the back parking lot also.)

  • If you arrive early, you may find that the entrance to the parking lot is blocked by cones. Please do NOT move the cones. Various classes often use the parking lot for activities until just before pick-up and it must remain clear. We will have 6th grade student helpers come to move the cones when appropriate.
  • Enter the parking lot via the entrance closest to the school building.
  • Please BACK into the spaces along the outside of the lot first, saving the inside row of parking spaces for later arrivals.
  • Exit your car and meet your child at the top of the stairs. Do not ask students to walk across the parking lot alone.
  • Please keep students with you and keep them from climbing the trees and running down the hill on the grass.
  • Exit the parking lot via the exit closest to the dumpsters.

 

Upper Parking Lot (by the Church): This area is for those students who live INSIDE Nashua.

  • Please park your car within the marked spaces only. If extra parking is needed, you may park in the lot next to the parish’s barn (beyond the white house with the Mary statue in front)
  • Exit your car and meet your student in the parking lot by the door to the church. Do not ask students to walk across the parking lot alone.
  • Please do not allow students to jump off the stone walls or run around in the memorial garden next to the Rectory.

 

Back to School Parent Events – Mark your calendars for the following events! They are a great opportunity to meet fellow parents and/or get caught up with old friends, as well as find out what’s new at St. Christopher School!

 

New Parent Orientations – We can’t wait to welcome our new parents to St. Christopher School! We offer two New Parent Orientations, dependent on what grade your student is in. Both will cover volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, “inside info” from veteran families, tours of the school, question and answer session, and more!

 

PreK parents should attend the PreK Parent Orientation on Thursday, August 31 at 9:15 AM in the Church Hall. The Prek Orientation gives specific information and advice to parents of our youngest students, as well as general school information. PreK students should attend and will spend time in their classroom with their aides and a parent volunteer.

All other parents should attend the New Parent Orientation, to be held on Thursday, August 31 at 7:00 PM in the Church Hall.  PreK parents do not have to attend this second session.

 

Parish/School Fall Family Picnic –  Join our St. Chris community in giving thanks for a new school year on Sunday, September 10 at the 10:00 AM mass, then join in the picnic fun in the Church Hall and Church lawn! Representatives from a larger number of parish and school groups will be offering fun, games and food for all!

 

Parent Information Night – All parents should attend the Parent Information Night on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:45 PM. The meeting will begin in the Church with a series of short presentations outlining the state of the school and the upcoming school year. We will then adjourn to the school so parents may visit their children’s classrooms (be sure to leave a note in your child’s desk…they’ll be looking for it!). We’ll see you there!

 

Before and After Care – Our Extended Day programs began on the first day of school. Before Care will open at 7:00 AM and After Care is available until 5:30 PM. Additional information is included in this week’s paper News. All students who attend either Before or After Care must have a completed registration form on file before attending. (It is okay to send the form in with the child on the first day he or she attends.) You can find the registration form HERE.

 

NEW! After School Student Pick-up Schedule Changes – We know that in this crazy world a parent’s plans can change without warning! If your wild day necessitates a sudden change in where your child should go after school (After Care, Linda Rousseau’s, carpool pick-up, etc.) or who will pick up (mom, dad, grandma, family friend, etc.), we must be informed by a PHONE CALL to the front desk (882-7442)! Please do not rely on emailing a teacher as they are often too busy teaching to check their email until after the children have left. With a quick phone call, you can be assured that the front desk will let your child’s teacher know about the change in plans as soon as possible. We want to keep all our kids safe, so thanks for your help in this!

 

NEW! Attendance – Just a reminder that if a student is going to be out of school for the day, whether from illness or appointment, you must notify the school by 9:00 AM that day. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  If a student is not in school by 9:00 AM and we have NOT heard from a parent, we will be calling to doublecheck on the student’s welfare. This is to ensure that all our students are safely where they should be!

 

NEW! Morning Visits to Classrooms Please remember throughout the year that mornings are NOT the time to visit the classroom and attempt to talk to your child’s teacher, as she is busy getting the children settled into the room and ready to start learning for the day. If you need to speak to a teacher, please either send her an email or send in a note with your student. Teachers will get back with you as soon as they are able during their busy day. If you have an emergency message about a particular issue, you can leave it with either Mrs. Prangley or Mrs. Sheehan who will be sure it gets to the teacher right away.

 

NEW! Raffle Calendar Fundraiser It’s calendar time again…and we have some GREAT prizes this year! This paper Wednesday News packet includes 10 calendar raffle tickets per family. Each ticket is $10. As in the past, for every 10 raffle tickets your family sells, you will earn one entry into a raffle for a $1,500 Tuition Credit or $1,000 Cash!  This is the first of our three major fundraisers in the annual Invest in Excellence campaign, so we are really counting on your support!

 

We will have a number of fun student seller incentives throughout the month of September! Check them out!

 

FRIDAY FUNDAY incentives for every Friday in September (except on Sept 29, a no school day!). Any student who brings in at least one ticket will receive the prize of the day:

Student Surprise Prizes will be chosen on random days during the month of September from anyone who turns in a ticket on that day.

 

Crazy Mrs. Clarke will make a special appearance in October if we beat our school goal of 2,000 tickets! We’ve met our goal each of the last 8 years…can’t wait to make this number 9 and see what crazy Mrs. Clarke will do this year!

 

NEW! Auction Committee Meeting Time to get the party started…or at least start planning for it! Our Auction Committee will hold its first meeting of the year on Friday, September 15 at 8:00 AM. Our auction is the largest fundraiser for St. Chris, having raised over $55,000 dollars last year to assist in making St. Chris a better place for all students!  There’s a place on the Auction Committee for everyone, including those interested in theme/decorations, item procurement, technology/computers, class art projects, reservations/seating, etc.! Meetings are held monthly through December, then bi-weekly during January and weekly in March, although Committee members “come and go” as needed with their role on the Committee. NEW! Parent Group Meeting – Mark your calendar for the Parent Group Social on Wednesday, September 20 at 6:30 PM in the library! This is a great opportunity to meet other parents, hear about Parent Group activities and plans for the year, and learn how to get involved!

 

NEW! Coffee with Mrs. Clarke -- Our first Coffee with Mrs. Clarke will be held on Friday, September 15 from 9:15 – 10:15 AM in the Church Hall! This is an informal opportunity to get together with Mrs. Clarke and other parents and chat about all that’s happening at St. Chris. Bring your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions….we’ll bring the coffee and light refreshments!

 

NEW! Box Tops for EducationWe love our Box Tops program! We ask you to continue to save your Box Tops for this highly successful Box Top fundraising effort.  Participating Box Top products can be found here http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products. Box Tops are found on hundreds of products. Simply cut the Box Tops from the package and send them into school with your child. A Box Top collection bin is located near the Computer Classroom on the 2nd floor. Box Tops are each worth 10 cents and all those dimes add up to big dollars for St. Chris! Volunteers are always needed to help trim and sort the Box Tops. You can sign up to help by visiting the Volunteer Page on the school website.

 

NEW! Parent-Student HandbookYour paper Wednesday News includes a copy of the updated Parent-Student Handbook for this year. Please take the time to read it yourself and review it with your student(s). All students and parents must sign and return the form located at the back of the Handbook by September 15.

 

NEW! Fiddle Squad – Is your 3rd to 6th grade student interested in Fiddle Squad? Mrs. Bailey will be in the lobby on Thursday, August 31 and Monday, September 11 at 8:30 AM to do fiddle sizing for interested students. Information about the Band and Fiddle Squads are included in this week’s paper News.

 

New! First Lego League Sign-Up’s – The St. Chris FLL team is open to all students who are 9 years old or older in 2017.  Registration cost is $75 per student.  Checks are made payable to St. Christopher School and should have FLL noted in the memo line and are due by Sept. 12. Volunteers – We love our volunteers and are so very grateful for all the help they provide our St. Chris community! To make signing up for volunteering easy for our parents and coordinators, we have once again created online volunteer registration sheets for all of our programs through Sign-Up Genius and all registration is now open! You can sign up to volunteer with just a few clicks of the mouse, receive automatic email reminders about your volunteer activities, see who else is volunteering for a program, switch volunteer times with another volunteer, and more!

NEW! Book Fair Yee-haw! We are excited to start the year off with our Scholastic Book Fair to support the library! For the first few weeks of school, the library will be FULL of great books and items that are sure to be a hit with your kids (and even a few things for us adults, too!). Each class will visit the library during the Book Fair and parents are welcome to shop any time that school is in session or during any of the evening Orientation meetings. Clifford and Geronimo Stilton Costumes – Mrs. Noon is also looking for adventurous volunteers who would like to don an alter ego during the Book Fair! We will be receiving Clifford and Geronimo Stilton costumes as part of the Book Fair festivities and would love to have those characters meet the children on the mornings of the Fair! Time commitment would be from 8:30-8:50 AM on any of the days between September 11 and 15. NEW! Drama Club Exciting things are happening in Drama Club! This year’s production will be Annie, Jr…and it will take place on November 17! That’s right…Drama Club will be a Fall activity this year and will not stretch through the winter into Spring! The Drama Club is open to any student in grades 3-6 and practices will be held after school. Parents of interested students should attend the parent meeting on Thursday, September 14 at 6:30 PM in 1M. Additional details are available HERE.

 

NEW! CHORUS REGISTRATION! - Register online if your student is in 3rd-6th grade and interested in singing with their friends www.stchrisschoolnh.org/students/activities/chorus. Chorus provides lots of performance opportunities including Barnes and Noble Night, Christmas Tree Lighting, and of course The Winter Fine Arts Festival Thursday January 18th at 6:30 PM!  Contact Ms. Daigle with any questions!

 

NEW! Hot Lunch Changes – We have exciting new changes for the Hot Lunch program this year!  At the request of our Hot Lunch volunteers, we have worked with the parish to move the Hot Lunch serving area to the Church Hall, saving our volunteers many steps! On most days, classes will walk up to the Church Hall to pick up their lunches and return to their classrooms to eat. During the year however, we plan on holding “special lunch” days where students will eat in the Church Hall to get the “cafeteria” experience. Since this is all new to us, we ask everyone’s patience as we work out any kinks that pop up!

Volunteers Needed! Speaking of Hot Lunch, we will need many, many volunteers to make our Hot Lunch program a success…over 100 people! Hot Lunch is a great way to get to know other parents, to see what’s going on in the school, and to see your children and their friends! Volunteers serve lunch just one day a month on the day of the week of your choice (although those who want to help out several days a month are always welcome!). NEW! Teacher Parking Lot and Auction Parking Spot – Please keep in mind that the parents should not park in any of the spaces in the parking lot in front of the church/school along Cushing Ave. during school hours. This lot is for teachers only so they can park easily and get into the school for the kids! If you’d like to ensure you always have a guaranteed parking spot, the first space in that lot is up for bid each year at the Auction to the highest bidder! This year’s winner has permission to park there until March 23, 2018…so please keep that space clear!

 

NEW! School Store – With the relocation of the Hot Lunch steam table to the Church Hall and the milk coolers to the end of the hallway by 2nd grade, we have opened up a new and exciting area for our School Store! The store, renamed the Husky Hut, is now located in the lobby, against the you-can’t-miss-it bright yellow wall. For most of the school year, the store is run by our 5th grade students and their parents, although for the first few weeks of school it will be manned by school staff every morning. Available items include supplies like pencils and notebooks, as well as Husky spirit items. During the year, look for announcements of school spirit wear that will ONLY be available at the school store!

 

NEW! School Uniforms – This week’s paper News contains a printed copy of the uniform chart prepared by Red Brick Clothing that can be found HERE. Please note that Red Brick is now our official uniform supplier and uniforms should not be purchased from anyone else, including Educational Outfitters.

 

NEW! School Mass Our first all-school mass of the year will be Monday, September 25 at 9:15 AM and will be prepared by 6W in celebration of Mercy Day. Please join us as we give thanks for the opportunity to begin a new school year together and to ask for God’s blessings.

 

NEW! 3-School MassOn Thursday, September 21, our 1st through 6th grade students will also be traveling by bus to Infant Jesus School to join their students and the students from Nashua Catholic Junior High School for a very special mass celebrating the start of the school year. Permission slips are included in this week’s paper News.

 

NEW! Address Changes – The real estate market is HOT and we hear that several of our families have recently purchased new homes or will be moving soon…congrats! If you have moved, please be sure to send us your new address and phone information as soon as possible so that we can update our records. Private Tours – Know of any new folks moving to the area? Have friends or relatives who would enjoy the St. Chris community and value a St. Chris education? We’d love to show them our school!
