FALL FUNDRAISER CALENDARS—Keep those calendars coming! We’re up to 588 calendars sold, which is just over ¼ of our goal of 2,000! As of today, classroom totals are:

KH     45

KN     35

4T     46

6W    63  (Still the winner so far!)

We’ll be accepting calendar sales to contribute to the class totals until Monday, Sept. 28! And don’t forget, you can download calendars online at http://www.nashuadiocesanschools.org/ --- send the link to family and friends out of town and give them the chance to win one of our fantastic prizes!

Speaking of calendar sales, we are in need of one family to sell calendars at St. Patrick’s Church in downtown Nashua this Saturday, Sept. 26. All calendar sales done on Saturday will count towards your family’s total in earning those $2,500 raffle tickets! Please email Marta at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you can help out on Saturday.

BALL IN THE HOUSE CONCERT: Do you have your tickets yet? This is a limited seating event, so be sure to get those requests in soon – public newspaper advertising begins next week and the tickets are sure to go quickly! This will be a wonderful family experience – you’ll sing, you’ll dance, you’ll be amazed at the vocal talent of these guys!  And don’t forget our opening act – a chorus comprised of children from St. Chris, Infant Jesus, and Nashua Catholic. This is sure to be the entertainment treat of the year! Ticket requests can be downloaded online at www.NashuaDiocesanSchools.org and sent into the office.

POTLUCK—We’ll see you on Friday at the 1st Annual Family Potluck! DJ Keith Demanche will be providing the music – we’ll be providing the drinks and paper goods – and everyone will be providing their favorite food! The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the back parking lot.

One note – because our insurance only covers St. Christopher students and only during the school day, we will have the playground closed for the event. Students are asked to stay on the blacktop parking lot, rather than running around on the hill near the playground – we have many tender new plants growing there that are easily trampled by running feet!

CHESS AND CHECKERS CLUB – Senior Chess and Checkers Club, grades 4-6, will begin this Friday in the Church Hall at 8:00 a.m. It will run September 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Please read the introductory note from coordinator Tony Storace, located here and complete a registration form, located here.

COMPUTER TEACHER – It is with sadness that we have accepted the resignation of computer teacher Jill Mudge. Jill will be leaving us to concentrate on family issues which demand her attention. We thank Jill for all of the time, effort and expertise she has given us the last year!

Applications are being accepted for the position. We are looking to hire a Computer Teacher/ IT Support Person with knowledge of both PC and Mac computers, as well as Web Page maintenance.  College Degree, State Certification, and experience preferred.  Please reply by email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; fax 603-594-9253; or mail to St. Christopher School, 20 Cushing Avenue, Nashua, NH 03064.  All applications must be received by October 5, 2009.

SKI CLUB – The organizational meeting for our Ski Club will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Miss Cate’s room in the school. Craig Mesa, from Crotched Mountain, will be on hand to answer any questions. The deadline for registration is October 13, so this is the opportunity to get your questions answered. Ski Club is for children in grades 3-6 and will take place for five Fridays, beginning in January.

PET BLESSING – If you count a dog, cat, bird, hamster, snake or other animal/reptile friend as part of your family, you’ll want to join Fr. Kelley at St. Christopher’s parish on Sunday, October 4 at 11:30 a.m. for the annual Pet Blessing in honor of St. Francis Assisi’s feast day! Bring Fido or Fluffy along to the upper parking lot to receive a special blessing and give thanks for the companionship our animal friends give us every day. (And please be prepared to clean up any “accidents” your pet may have! Thanks!)

SCRIP NEWS: Gymboree has sent us several coupons worth 20% off your entire purchase of children’s clothing either in the store or online. Contact Marta at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you would like to receive one of these coupons.

Until October 16, Applebee’s has increased its return to the school from 8% to 10%. Here’s a great chance to have a meal out with the family and do some fundraising for the school! Applebee’s gift cards are available in $25 and $50 denominations.

FAITH OUTREACH - Have you noticed the new decorations on the downstairs bulletin board?  You can see our student’s faith in action in the photos of craft projects for the homebound and Vocation Day events.  The Faith Outreach committee is already planning for this year's Vocation Day in the spring.  Coming next month is the adopted religious social where we welcome those individuals who will be "adopted" by our students' homerooms.  Each classroom at St. Christopher School has the honor of "adopting" an individual who is an active religious, including priests, deacons, and nuns. On a monthly basis, the adopted religious visit their classroom and present a lesson, attend a mass, or just hang out. This allows our students to develop an appreciation for those dedicated to religious life.  All are welcome to come to the social on Oct 13th, from 8:30 -9:30am in the Church hall.  The Faith Outreach committee meets the 2nd Friday every month.  The next meeting will be Fri, Oct. 9th at 8:45am.

PGC WORKSHOP – Thank you to all who attended the Protecting God’s Children Workshop on Tuesday night.  If you did not pass in all your paperwork that night, please be sure to get it into Jackie as soon as possible.  There are three pieces of paper we must receive:  Volunteer Application, Criminal Record Release Authorization Form (notarized) and the Acknowledgement page of the Code & Policy booklet.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Additional THURSDAY News!

This news just in! Principal Jack Daniels has announced a new incentive for selling those calendar raffles! If the school reaches 1,200 calendars sold by Tuesday, Sept. 29, the WHOLE school will earn a Dress Down Day for October 16, the day before the Ball in the House concert! Today's total is 714, so the goal is in reach!

6W widened their lead on the classroom contest to 74 over 2W's 61 today....but watch out for 3M! They turned in 28 calendars just today, so they are moving ahead full steam at 53. Not to be left behind, 1D tallies in at 57. Keep those calendars coming!

Don't forget, for every 10 calendars sold per family, you will receive 1 FREE entry into the $2,500 raffle to be drawn at the concert! Tomorrow, blue receipt cards will be sent home for any family who has sold their 10 calendars by tomorrow morning. Blue receipts will be sent home next week for any family who sells 10 during the week next week.

More news...

* Cross country coach Fred Daniels has posted important information for the Cross Country team on the website. If you are a cross country parent, please check it out at http://stchrisschoolnh.org/students/activities/cross-country/152-cross-country-news.html.

* Drama coordinator Kathy Moraros reminds parents that audition schedules were given out Monday to the children who would like acting parts in the play. If your child wanted a part in the play and did not receive an audition schedule -- or wasn't listed -- please contact Marta. If your child signed up for stage crew, he or she will be called to a meeting a little later this fall. For now, stage crew does NOT need to attend rehearsals.

* For the first few weeks of school, playground access has been limited to one classroom per recess. This schedule was created by the teachers in order to give everyone the chance to use the playground without overcrowding and the chance for injury. In the next few weeks, teachers will transition to one grade on the playground per recess and, potentially, to open time for all in a recess. This will occur slowly, when the teachers feel comfortable with the number of children on the playground at once. We know that some children are anxious to use the playground more often -- it will happen, we just need to be cautious for safety sake! Please assure your children that they will have plenty of opportunity to use the new equipment -- we made it to last for years!
