June 16, 2010

Dear Parents and Friends of the Saint Christopher School Community,

As we complete the 2009 - 2010 academic year, I would like to thank you for your support.   So much has been accomplished because of it.  Students have thrived academically from interactive learning in and beyond the classroom; they have exhibited compassion and generosity in response to others’ challenges and heartbreak; they have been strengthened through healthy exercise and good nutrition; they have grown spiritually through guidance, prayer, and celebration.  Because of your generosity of time, talent, and treasure, our students’ lives have been enriched.  On behalf of the staff, I thank you.

Having completed our search for staff for the 2010-1011 academic year, we are most excited to announce to you the hiring of an experienced pre-kindergarten aide/teacher, Holly Hauntsman.   A Nashua native, she attended local Catholic schools.  After graduating from Mount Saint Mary Seminary and the University of New Hampshire, Holly taught at the kindergarten level.  A certified teacher, she will serve as Beverly Landry’s aide in the Pre-K morning program.  When Mrs. Landry teaches Visual Arts Appreciation in the afternoon, Mrs. Hauntsman will assume Pre-K teaching responsibilities.  Please join me in welcoming Holly Hauntsman to our staff.

On behalf of the school community, I wish our sixth grade graduates success as they continue on their educational journey.  How proud of these graduates we are!   We thank them for their contributions to the school community; we thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share in their growth and development!  What a privilege it has been.

I wish all of you a blessed, fun-filled summer.

Directions for Optional (this year) Summer Math Workbooks

Dear Parents and Students:

In an effort to help maintain math skills over the summer, we are asking you to complete 20 lessons in the Summer Math Skills Sharpener workbook.  These lessons will help keep their basic math skills.  The goal should be for your child to complete about two lessons (24 problems) each week.  We aren’t grading them this year, but next year it will be their first test grade.

  1. Calculators may not be used for any of these problems, unless the problem is labeled “Calculator skill.”
  2. All calculations and work must be shown in the workbook in the space provided.
  3. As each worksheet is finished, parents should use the answer key provided in the back of the workbook to correct the problems.  Students should then redo any problems until they are correct.  Please include this work as well.

These worksheets should also be timed.  Two lessons may be done in 25 minutes, or you may divide the week allowing 5 minutes for every five problems.  This will give parents and students an idea of whether or not students are working as quickly as they should be.  If students are unable to finish two lessons in 25 minutes, they should still complete the page and note how much extra time was needed.

We hope that this will make for an easier start to the school year.  In order for this program to be successful and of the most use to you, you should try to work regularly in the workbook.  Please do not leave it all until the last week of summer!  We DO want you to enjoy your vacation!  We’re looking forward to seeing you in September.

Workbooks may be ordered from the publisher online at:

June 17 Last Day of School for Pre-K and Kindergarten – 3:00 PM Dismissal

June 17 Valentino’s Restaurant Day and Night

June 18 Last Day of School Grades 1 thru 5 – 12:30 PM Dismissal

Summer Office Hours – Have a question that just can’t wait? Know a family who is interested in St. Chris for the Fall? Just want to say Hi? We’ll be here this summer, ready and willing to help! The office will be open from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, all summer long. Just ring the bell as usual and we’ll buzz you in (warning – it’s VERY hot here in the summer!). Jack, Jackie, Deb and Marta will also be answering emails throughout the summer, so feel free to send us a message if you need something.

Speaking of summer hours, we will still be registering new students over the summer. As we’ve mentioned before, the kindergarten is at capacity, but there are still a few spots left in the PreK program (both full and part-time). If you know anyone who would like a St. Chris education for their child, beginning in the PreK program is the best way to be sure that they will get into the Kindergarten program the following year. Please pass the word!

St. Christopher Parish Directory – Following the 10:00 a.m. Mass on June 20th, St. Christopher Parish will be shooting a cover photo for their upcoming Parish Directory. They have requested that all parish groups, including the school, be a part of the photo. We would love to have a group of students there, in uniform, to hold our banner and represent our school! If your children would like to take part, please email Marta at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thanks!

Save that Envelope - "What's that?," you say.  "You don't want the Box Tops envelope back?!"  That's right - save the envelope for the entire summer to remind you to clip those valuable coupons.  The oldest or only child should be bringing home a Box Tops envelope today.  Stuff those envelopes with as many coupons as you can and send them back at the start of the 2010 - 2011 school year.  Enjoy the summer and thanks again for everyone's efforts with this program.

Nashua Catholic 6th Annual Golf Tournament: Hit the links with a few of your friends and support Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School at the same time! Nashua Catholic will hold its Sixth Annual Golf Tournament on Thursday, August 12 at Souhegan Woods Golf Course in Amherst. All proceeds benefit Nashua Catholic Building Renovation Projects. Fee is $90 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf (shotgun start), a cart and a BBQ Steak Dinner at the course. For more information, call Bob Boissonneault at the school at 882-7011, ext. 212 or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Altar Servers for Next Year: We need altar servers for the Fall! Our last two St. Chris parish trained servers, Joseph Trabucchi and Thomas Pappas, are graduating, along with Peter Martin who serves at another parish but often helps us out here. (Congratulations, boys!) If your child is interested in altar serving – or is an altar server at another parish – please let Marta know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Altar serving is a wonderful way to serve the Lord and the school… any child who has made First Communion is welcome!

GoodSearch – What if St. Chris earned a donation every time you searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our school? Well, now it can! Talk about painless fundraising!

GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and support St. Chris!

The related GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 30 percent of each purchase to St. Chris, too! Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you'll be supporting our school.

And if you download the GoodSearch – St. Chris toolbar, our cause will earn money every time you shop and search online - even if you forget to go to GoodShop or GoodSearch first! Add the St. Christopher School toolbar at http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/mode/ . Hint --There’s a long list of St. Christopher Schools, so be sure to choose the right one!

Valentino’s Nite (and Day!) Out – Join us for our very last Restaurant event of the year at Valentino’s Family Restaurant in Hudson on Thursday, June 17 (the night before the last day of school!). Owners and school parents Tom and Sonia Dahl have extended the event this time to include ALL DAY, in addition to the regular evening hours. To make it even easier, no coupons are necessary…just write “St. Christopher” on your bill! So go out to lunch or go out to dinner and earn money for our Parent Group enrichment activities!

Digital Photography Classes– Former computer teacher Jill Mudge has a new business she would like to share with the St. Chris community! Please check out www.nhdigitalworks.com for information on a number of classes and workshops in digital photography and techniques that Jill will be leading in the Fall for both children and students. We wish Jill great luck with her new endeavor!
