Bev Landry received her BA in Education from Rivier College in 1970. She initially worked in Hudson, NH as an Elementary Ed Teacher. She worked as a public school teacher until 1973 when she left to open her own early childhood center. At Kinder World she wore many hats as director and teacher. During her time as director she earned a Masters Degree in Theology, Guidance, Business, Creative Arts and Literacy. Her center served the greater Nashua Community from 1973 to 2003. Before coming to St Christopher School she worked as a substitute teacher in Massachusetts teaching all subjects in Elementary Ed, grades K-5. She joined the St Christopher Community in 2008 as the Pre-K Teacher and Visual Arts Instructor. She is currently enrolled in a Doctoral program in the arts. Teaching is her passion.

Born:  March 30, 1853     

Died:  July 29, 1890

Dutch Painter of the Post Impressionistic Era

Prints to share:  Sunflowers and Starry Night

His last words: “ La tristesse durera toujours”.

Curriculum Standard #7:  Understand the range of careers in the field of Visual Arts and identify careers associated with the field. 

7.2   Describe various kinds of artists and fields of art particular to the State of New Hampshire.

Projects:

  1.  Sunflower Sections:  Through the peep hole.
  2. . Starry Night…Student’s version
  3.   Still Life:  Irises  (Students may draw similar still life or their own version)
  4.  Self Portrait:  van Gogh style.  Big strokes, bright colors

Artist of the Month:  Oscar Claude Monet    born:  November 15, 1840    died: December 5, 1926

Art Print:  Water Lilies

Founder of the French Impressionist Movement

He lived in Giverny, France where he had a beautiful garden.  As he got wealthier he expanded his garden.

He gave his property and gardens to the French Academy of Fine Arts when he died.

Curriculum Standard:  #6.  Students  will make connections among visual arts, other disciplines and daily life.

6.3  Describe how the visual arts are used in the world around us and how they are part of our everyday  life.

Projects:  impressionistic paintings with objects such as Kleenex, corks, feathers, sponges, veggies.

Artist of the Month:  Mary Cassatt

Born:  May 22, 1844             Died:  June 19, 1926

Style:  American Impressionism

Media:  Pastels

Mary Cassatt was born in America but died in France.  She is still considered an American artist.

Bible Quote:  Moses said to God, “Lo, I shall go to the children of Israel and say to them, the God of your fathers has sent me to you.If they should ask me “What is your name”? “What shall I say to them”?  God said to Moses, “I am, Who am”    Exodus 3:  13-14

Projects:  Draw a picture of you and your Mom, Make a face of someone you know or self portrait in the style o Mary Cassatt, draw a boating scene with “you” in it. And a picture of the Annunciation Cassatt style.

Academic Benchmarks:  Curriculum Standard #4:  Analyse visual arts in relation to history and culture.  Standard:  1.4  use art material and tolos in a safe and responsable way.

Mary Cassatt made ordinary, everyday scenes important.  She helped make the world realize that women could be great artists.  She loved painting children or families.  She painted with love.
