April and Spring/abril y primavera

Abril y Primavera, April and Spring.

During the month of April we are going to be learning about Spring related topics. Animals from the farm, flowers, and

butterflies. We are using books the children are familiar with, like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but in Spanish. These books help

them to learn in Spanish the words they are familiar with in English. They are also a good way to learn the days of the week in

Spanish. We are going to be using animal puppets in the early grades; they always have fun learning this way.

From 3rd to 6th grade we are learning about greetings and how to use them. The children are working with partners in creating

little plays to practice in from of the class. This will help them with their pronunciation and to feel comfortable using the Spanish

words in real situations.

*On Tuesday, April 19th, Rivier University is celebrating Cultural Night (Noche de Cultura) from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Come and

join us! Enjoy the students from 6th grade singing in Spanish and earn a dress down day.

Spring is here. La primavera esta aqui. Let's review for the Spanish test outside!

masks and dolls

Hola,

During the month of March, we learned about Mascaras de Vejigante de Puerto

Rico. The students from 5th grade had a parade around the school to show their

masks. They did a great job. These masks are made in Puerto Rico to scare away

evil spirits and get ready for Lent.

Third grade made Worry dolls from Guatemala and shared them with their buddies from pre-k. The children

of Guatemala make these dolls by hand. They tell them any worry they have, put them under their pillows

when they go to sleep, their worries go away.

The children had a lot of fun making these projects and learning about the culture of Puerto Rico and

Guatemala.
