October ( octubre)

This month we are learning about the Spanish-speaking countries. We continue with the alphabet in Spanish.

The kids are doing very good singing the alphabet and spelling their names. They are working in groups practicing

how to spell different words using the Spanish alphabet. Fall words are part of this activity.

We are making papel picado this week using napkins. The children are going to decorate the napkins with markers

and cut them to make their own papel picado. This paper is use in Mexico for decoration in almost every celebration.

Also this month we are making sugar skulls. This activity provide the kids with a better understanding of how the

Spanish culture honor their ancestors.

Vocation Day is also this month. Mrs. Mitchell's class will be saying a prayer in Spanish during Mass. The children will

have the opportunity to make a bilingual craft during that afternoon.

The kids are doing WONDERFUL saying and/or singing the prayers in Spanish during morning announcements. Gracias muchachos.

I am soooooooo proud of them!

Enjoy the beauty of  Autumn (otoño).

Hasta pronto,

señora B.

Important News for September (noticias importantes para septiembre)

The Spanish curriculum is base on the five C's from the

National Standard for Foreign Language Education.

These are: Communication, Cultures, Connections,

Comparisons, and Communities.

At St. Christopher School, we also incorporate elements

of the Catholic faith tradition in order to provide a comparison

between cultures.

The curiculum is designed to give the student a fundation of

the Spanish language for further study.

Songs, games, books, prayers and a lot of hands on activities in English and Spanish.

Repetition and fun are the key words.

Introduction to the use of iPads for Spanish games. Introducing puntuation marks and grammar for Spanish.

A workbook is use during class. Traditional games, prayers, cultural activities, participation in Mass.

The kids are working in groups and taking the role of the teacher to practice conversational Spanish.

The students are going to have a letter grade from third grade up. Refer to students/parents handbook, pages 26-27.

The worbook counts as part of the grade. This can be use as part of classwork, a quiz, and/or homework. Supplemental

material is provided to assist the student.

Projects are done in the classroom. Quizlet is use to review the material for the test. iPads are use in the classroom to

assist with projects and to play Spanish games.

At this point is expected that the student participated and use the Spanish language during class. This count as part of

their grade.
