February 2018 PreK-J Monthly News

February may be a short one, but it is jam packed filled with holiday celebrations and activities that are sure to keep us busy!   Within this short month, we will celebrate Ground Hog Day, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day and our 100th Day of School!!  So much fun!

We start the month off with Ground Hog Day.  Will he see his shadow? This day gives us a great opportunity to continue our study of winter, but turn our attention to hibernation and migration, as well as shadows.

We will continue our study of winter through our literature study of “The Mitten”.  The children are now learning how to write lower case letters. You may want to ask them about the meaning of sky line, plane line, grass line and worm line.  Please encourage your child to practice writing the lower case letters at home.

In math, we will practice identifying and counting 6-9 objects, subtracting, and writing numbers. We will continue recognizing and creating a variety of patterns.

In Religion, we will learn how God gave us light, about being patient, and about St. Valentine’s Day.

We will have a Valentine’s Day celebration on February 14th with special treats and the exchange of Valentine cards.  If you would like your child to participate in the exchange of valentines, please be sure to send in a filled out valentine card for each child in our class.  I will be sending home an updated class list in your child’s folder.

Every Friday -  Popcorn $.25 (Please put $ in folder)

Important Dates to Remember:

  • February 14 - Valentine’s Day Celebration
  • February 19  -  President’s Day, NO SCHOOL
  • February 20   - PreK’s 100th Day of School (weather permitting)
  • February 26 – March 3   -  Winter Break

Friendly reminders:

  • Please send in shoes or sneakers on days your child is wearing boots to school. Staying in their boots all day is uncomfortable, hot & tracks mud and dirt throughout the classroom.
  • Flu season is here and sharing blankets helps spread germs. Please remember to bring in a beach towel or blanket on Mondays!

As always, thank you for sharing your children with us. Have a great month!
