January 2018 Prek-J News

Happy 2018!  It is hard to believe that another year has gone by and we are now in the midst of winter!  I hope this newsletter finds everyone healthy and well!  I missed all the children over Christmas Break.

January is a great time for us to explore and discover all that winter brings to New England in the forms of snow, ice, freezing rain, wind, and blizzards. Our focus this month will be winter and discovering differences between freezing and melting and liquids and solids.  I have planned a variety of fun sensory experiences, demonstrations and engaging experiments using real or created snow and ice.

Religion for the month is using our senses; seeing, listening, touching and smelling.  Our winter theme correlates well with this.  Catholic Schools’ Week is coming up on January 29-February 2, 2018.

In math, we will continue to practice identifying 1-5 objects, subtracting, and writing numbers. We will be recognizing and creating a variety of patterns as well as discovering natural patterns in nature.

We will end the month with a Winter Celebration on Friday, January 26th during snack time.  What a good way to break up the winter doldrums.  More information to come.

I love this time of year when it becomes noticeable that the children are making great progress.  You can really notice the difference. Be on the lookout for your child’s report card coming home on Friday, January 26, 2018.

Thank you for sharing your children with us! Have a great month!
