February News

Dental Health and Valentine's Day are the themes for February.  There is also Catholic School Week, Groundhog and President's Day included during the month, so it will be busy! The letters of the week for the month are: X, V and O.  In math, our focus is money and counting coins.  For science, we will explore shadows both in the classroom and outside. There will also be a tooth experiment showing the effects of juices and soda, it is amazing for them to see!  Being the month of Love , this will be a main topic in Religion and also continue with Creation. Please check the schedule of events for Catholic School week which was sent home in the monthly envelope.

Father Paul visits our class on Tuesday, February 2nd.  He is planning to share his seahorse collection.  If your child has a collection of any type, he/she may bring it in on that day to show Father Paul.

Mrs. Vogel (Logan's Mom) is a dentist and will be joining us in the classroom to teach the class about dental health and how to take the best care of their teeth. We thank her for sharing her time and knowledge and expertise with us!

Friday, February 12th is the Valentine Party in the morning.  The class will exchange valentine cards.  Please have your child sign the back of the card only with no name on the envelope.  This is much easier for them when passing them out.  Attached is a list of goodies for the party.  Please send in a note if you are interested in providing an item. Thank you for your continued support.

Scholastic Book  order is due by Monday, February 8th.

January News

As we ring in the New Year of 2010,  January will be a busy and fun filled month while exploring the themes of Winter and Dinosaurs! Cold weather, snow and ice are the perfect ingredients of winter for all activities. The theme of Dinosaurs follows which is sure to be a favorite by all!

Journals will be introduced as part of Reading Readiness. Once a week, the children will draw a picture relating to the letter of the week and tell about entry.  The letters of the week for the month are: Y,W,D and U.  Show and Tell will continue with objects associated to the letter of the week, with the boys turn on Thursdays and the girls on Fridays.  Everyone enjoys participating in this activity! "What's The Weather" is the new unit we begin with in the Mother Goose Getting to Read Series. For this month, the math and science lessons and activity centers will be combined to incorporate the concepts related to Time, Temperature and Measurements.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate for the outdoor science experiments! In Religion, the main focus is "Discovering God's Gifts".  It addresses various areas of the creation of animals, people, heaven and earth.  Father Paul will also be visiting us on Tuesday, January 2nd. The class will also make a special gift to send to our Meals on Wheels friends, to cheer them during the winter months.

Please send hats, mittens and boots to school during the winter months. When the weather permits, we do go out after lunch for exercise and fresh air.  It is helpful if names are on your child's belongings.

Scholastic book order are due by Monday, January 11th.

Once again, a special Thank-You to all the parents and grandparents who joined us and sent in delicious snacks for the holiday party.  The class had a wonderful time and was surprised when Santa's helper arrived!  Also, thank-you to Mrs. Prangley who came in and helped the class create festive and edible Christmas trees!  If there is a special talent or activity that you may be interested in sharing with the class, please let me know and we can schedule you to come in anytime at your convenience!

It is a wonderful time of year for children to experience the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and touch during the holidays.
