Music - Ms. Daigle

NOID1Q02231Welcome! I hope that you're student is ready to be immersed into the world of music! Ukuleles, recorders, boomwhackers, drumming, dancing, singing, games, and theater are just some of the activities that I love to teach in class. Music is my passion and I absolutely adore sharing my love for it. The Christmas Pageants and Spring Concerts happen twice a year and showcase every grade's voice. December 2015

My favorite time of year! I’m pretty sure the reason why I love music so much is because of Christmas music, the Time Life Christmas CD set was always playing around the Holidays, and will continue to play in the Daigle residence.

christmas-song-quoteI’ll be bringing those CDs in for December and integrate those songs into the classroom. For the little ones, we’ll dance, create, and learn some great holiday oldies. 3rd & 4th grade have only learned BAG on the recorder and will be learning C for this month (It’s a more difficult note to play because they are so used to BAG, so it takes some time). I wish Christmas songs were written with four notes! We’ll have to wait until next Christmas to play Christmas songs. BUT instead of playing Christmas songs, they’ll be creating their very own songs on the recorder using the notes and rhythms that they have learned. For the 5th & 6th graders, there are some Christmas songs with chords they have already learned, so we’ll be jamming out to “Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town” and “Jingle Bells.” I have also been working on the circle of fifths with the 5th graders, and will be working on it this month with the 6th graders. This is high school level stuff to be learning, and I’m very proud of them!

recorderRecorder UPDATES: All 3-4 graders should now be able to play pages 6-7 in their books. I have assessed all the 3-4 graders so far. The ones who I told need to work a little harder MUST practice at home to catch up to the rest of the class. I leave extra time at the end of class so that the kids can ask me questions when they need help. Lastly, I have given each class a study guide for level 1, they should know all the information on this sheet.

ukuleleUkulele UPDATES: The 5th and 6th grade are doing well with ukuleles! I gave them a written (ungraded) pop quiz a few weeks back to see how they were doing and will be giving them another where they have the oppurtunitry to study. They know C, F, G7, G, and am chords. They will be learning a few more chords this month so they can play Christmas songs!

6W Ukulele's

Both 5th and 6th grade are doing a great job! 6W LOVES their ukulele classes, can you tell?

November 2015

November... already?!

This month; besides working on our Christmas songs for the Christmas concert, the kids and I will be digging into why we should be so thankful for music. For the 1st and 2nd graders we'll be making our very own maracas out of paper towel rolls. Pre-K and K will be showing me what kinds of notes they learn in music by drawing them. 3rd and 4th grade will be continuing their recorders. We have been working on page 6 in the books, and hopefully we'll be moving on to page 7 this month! 5th and 6th will continue learning their ukuleles. We have been practicing The song Clementine, and it is now perfect! Their next song will involve a new chord to learn, G7. As soon as they master it, we will learn the song "Love Somebody" and "Rockin' Robin" (the 6th graders have played this song and it's a favorite of Ms. Wefers!)
