Kindergarten - Miss Narkis

Welcome to Kindergarten! If you have any questions or concerns, please send me in a note with your child.

I have been part of the teaching staff here at St. Chris for over 15 years and love it. I also taught for 10 years in the public school prior to coming to St. Chris. My whole career has focused on the early childhood years. I find that kindergarten is a challenging but very fun level to teach and at St. Chris I’m pleased to be able to include a spiritual component to my teaching.

Mrs. Irene Foran is the Kindergarten aide for Miss Narkis.

October class news! 2017

october_owl_aaWell here we are in October already, and boy are we busy!  The children have settled into the weekly routine and we have been working very hard.  Our reading program is going very well and the children enjoy reviewing and adding words to our high frequency list.  This month we will be adding the following words:  a  to  have  is

We are reciting phonics daily and sequencing stories.  The children are aquiring all the correct terminology for the elements of literary form such as author, illustrator, title, etc.  We will practice further with identifying characters, setting and comparing and contrasting.

This month's character trait is TRUTHFULNESS which we have been putting into practice in the classroom.  Trustworthiness is an admirable quality to posess, as most people dislike being lied to, and like to deal with honest people whom they can trust.

We have been focusing on numbers 1-10 as we warm up and move on toward 20.  We have been base counting, sequencing, comparing values and learning about odd and even numbers.

The weeks ahead will also include pumpkin and Fall related activities, as well as a visit from the NFD! Thank you Mrs. Brown for making the arrangements! The children will get a chance to examine some equipment that is used by the firefighters, as well as see different trucks up close.  We will be reviewing fire safety basics with the children in class.  The month will close with our traditional Hat Day celebration on Tuesday, October 31st.  Further details about this day will come later.  Laughing

September Class News! 2017

We will be off to a great start this year.  We have 10 boys and 5 girls to make up our wonderful class, and I am very excited to meet and greet them all!  Mrs. Foran and I will see you on Monday which is "Meet the Teacher Day" from 9-11:00am.  You can check out the classroom and get yourself prepared for the first day of school.

This month we will begin by reviewing colors, letters of the alphabet, phonics and numbers 1-10.  We will be spending a good amount of time practicing lowercase letters in handwriting and name writing as well.  We will begin our first unit of our Reading Street program which will cover phonological awareness, comprehension, high frequency words, vocab words, decodable stories and readers!  Wow!

To commence our religion series, we will read a book entitiled "What is God like?"  We will discus some of God's incredible attributes and our relationship to Him.  Our religion book begins with the story of creation which tells about how it all began.

Attentiveness is our character trait for the month of September, which is  perfect for the beginning of the year.  Attentiveness builds a special awareness of self and others, and improves respect, as well as learning.  You will soon be receiving more information about this wonderful character building program that your child will be exposed to.

We are looking forward to a very fun and productive month ahead.  We are grateful for all the little ones that we will be working with, and we appreciate all that you parents do to prepare them for school.

We will see you all very soon!!Smile
