Kindergarten - Miss Narkis

Welcome to Kindergarten! If you have any questions or concerns, please send me in a note with your child.

I have been part of the teaching staff here at St. Chris for over 15 years and love it. I also taught for 10 years in the public school prior to coming to St. Chris. My whole career has focused on the early childhood years. I find that kindergarten is a challenging but very fun level to teach and at St. Chris I’m pleased to be able to include a spiritual component to my teaching.

Mrs. Irene Foran is the Kindergarten aide for Miss Narkis.

Class News April 2016

It's April and we will be as busy as bees this month!  Our new unit is all about honey bees and their marvelous and complex lifestyle.  The children will engage in some hands on activities to familiarize them with the various roles of the worker bees and with hive building and the honey making process.  The bee is also the insect related to our character trait for April which is sincerity.  Sincereity is being genuine about who you are, and what you say and do.

We have already begun our first word family at.  The children and I wrote sentences together using "at" words such as cat, mat, sat etc.  They are getting more comfortable with spelling their high frequency words and we continue to add to the list.  We will be covering new word families for the remainder of this year.

We are practicing adding and subtracting through various games and activities and will continue to do so for the next couple of months.  Measurement and money are our new topics for April.  This is where all our practice with base counting will pay off!  Quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies can be counted more easily with this aquired skill.

This month is sure to fly by, but it will be full of the love of learning and the excitement of new life and Spring!!  The children have progressed so much since they first walked through my door back in September, and I continue to enjoy watching them mature and acheive new skills. Smile

Today we cracked open the geodes!

It took a while, but our hammer and chisel method worked on our geodes and revealed these beautiful crystals!   Smile
