Kindergarten - Miss Hilton

Angela Hilton

Welcome to Kindergarten! I am beginning my sixth year here at St. Christopher's where I hope to teach for the remainder of my career. The Christian values instilled by the families and teachers were evident from the moment I met the children. I knew this was where I wanted to stay. You can visit our web page throughout the year to check out all the wonderful things we're doing in kindergarten.

Miss Hilton came to St Christopher's in 2004 after having taught first grade for six years.

February Highlights

*We made a "Caring Tree" for the bulletin board by listing ways that we can care for others.

*We used candy hearts to estimate, measure distance, perimeter, and area.

* As we learned about our senses, we closed our eyes each day and focused on one of the senses to try and guess things that we were seeing, tasting, smelling, and touching.

*We learned about different types of teeth, dental hygiene, and how animals use their teeth as we covered the letter T.

* We made tooth shields, painted pictures of the Tooth Fairy, and used our sounds to write a letter to her.

* We used our fine motor skills to sew pillows to keep our lost teeth for the Tooth Fairy.

* We wrote and illustrated a book about things that are "up" as we learned about the letter U.

* We read stories about unicorns and then designed our own.

KH's Monthly Highlights

Check out the fun things we did as we learned letters O through R this month:

* As we learned about the letter O, we studied ocean animals.

* We read a story about acceptance and used jewels to make our own rainbow fish.

* We used chalk, saran, and meat trays to make our favorite sparkly fish. Then we used our sounds to name it.

* As we learned about the letter P we learned about the importance of prayer as well as what things we can pray for. We made prayer pyramids showing when and where we can pray.

* We made prayer magnets for the elderly.

* We also learned about foods that come from pigs and made pig wheels.

* We graphed our favorite pork products.

* We used our sounds to write signs to the big bad wolf from the three little pigs.

* As we learned about the letter Q, we worked in groups to illustrate a bible story about quail falling from the sky for the hall.

* We learned about the question mark and thought of questions we would ask a queen.

* We made a rain mobile with pictures of R things on each raindrop.

* We read Noah's Ark and made a real rainbow on the ceiling in our classroom.

* We made a rain cloud in a ziploc bag.

* We painted what we think is at the end of a rainbow.

In math we've been learning about addition and subtraction. We had a special visit from Mr. Daniels. We acted out the song "Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed," and formed subtraction sentences.

* After learning about the Three Magi, we made a picture of what we would have given baby Jesus. We used our sounds to write about our gifts to Jesus . Then we decorated it like a present and hung it in the hall.

* We made Mother Hubbard's cupboard and put M things in it.

* We read "Hey Diddle Diddle," and thought of other things starting with M that a cow could jump over.

* We read "Little Miss Muffet" and talked about things that frighten us. Then we read about different kinds of spiders and the different webs they weave.
