It's March already and the students have accomplished so much in the computer lab....
st Grade –This month we will begin the Very Hungry Caterpillar unit to celebrate the author Eric Carle. We will have a discussion about the stages of a butterfly’s life, and then students will create a picture of each stage using KidPix. First the students draw a leaf and egg to show the first stage of a butterfly’s life. Then they will draw a caterpillar using shapes in KidPix. The next project will be a butterfly sun catcher. The final assessment will be a book that the students make in class, showing the correct sequence of the life cycle of a butterfly.
nd Grade – Students completed the Dance Mat typing program during the month of February, and now they are practicing keyboarding skills in Mavis Beacon. In March, they will be introduced to educational games on a website called www.abcya.com. An upcoming project will celebrate Dr. Suess; the students will read a Dr. Suess book then create a word search on www.abcya.com. In the weeks following the Dr. Suess project, students will be working on a surprise for Father Day; a program sponsored by the Parent Group.
rd Grade – The students in 3L are finishing up the PowerPoint Book Report, and 3G will be completing the Famous African American project in PowerPoint in the next couple of weeks. Upon completing these assignments, students will be introduced to Excel spreadsheets and learn how to create a multiplication table using formula’s in a spreadsheet to practice math facts.
th Grade – In February, students completed the States project in PowerPoint. Next, students will revisit MS Excel spreadsheets and learn how to build multiplication arrays using colors and borders. They will review how to write a math formula on a spreadsheet and learn other formatting techniques in the program.
th Grade – Students completed the Skittles project using MS Excel spreadsheets; they learned how to set up a data table to compare data, and create graphs from the data. In the coming weeks, students will continue to use Excel, and conduct research using the internet and learn how fast food restaurants offer high calorie foods. Students research favorite fast food restaurants, record the calories found in each item they would eat from the menu, and then graph the number of calories. This will give studendts a visual of the high fat content found in fast food.
th Grade – The students completed the News/Weather Broadcast, so see the article below to locate the link found in YouTube. The students in 6E will begin a new project with poems they wrote in their regular classroom, then use pictures from ClipArt.com and create a iMovie with the poem and pictures. For students in 6W, they are creating a newspaper, so they will use a template in Word that allows them to create a “vintage” looking newspaper for Ms. Wefers Social Studies class.
