May News

I hope that everyone had a wonderful April Vacation. We are now ready to complete some important work to end this school year.

‘‘‘Tis the month of our Mother. We will celebrate with a procession with the statue of Mary every morning after the morning announcements. 6W will take their turns with 1A, our Buddy Class. Later this month the student body will all take part in our annual May Procession in the Church. The sixth grade class will vote for their representatives to carry the crown of flowers and crown the statue of our Blessed Mother at this prayer service. Our religion class will continue to study the Old Testament and then move on to the New Testament, focusing on the life of Jesus and the Holy Family.

6W is working on book reports for our April books. Students read a science fiction or fantasy book last month, and they will share their books in the form of a movie poster done in class. The book for May is free choice. Students will chose a book from their favorite genre and complete their final report of the year.

Grade Six Social Studies has many important activities for this month. They have chosen a new country from Asia, Africa, or Australia, and they will create a map, flag, and oral presentation from their research. We will complete a unit on World War I and World War II in class this month. Students will interview a veteran and bring in military artifacts to present to the class.

Grade Five Social Studies will complete their unit on the American Revolution and end the year with a unit of the formation of the new American government. They will also be working at home on a 3D model of an historical American landmark to present to the class on May 23rd.

This month has so many special events, including the Used Book Sale, the Spring Concert, and the Fine Arts Festival. We hope you can join us for these events.

The month will end with a Memorial Day ceremony by the Student Council. We remember.

The end of May brings us to the sixth grade field trips, a celebration for all of their hard work this year. Information and paperwork for these trips will be sent home soon!

Happy Spring! It has finally arrived!
