Home Students Classroom Pages Grade 6 - Mrs. Emond January News

January News

Brrrrrrrr….It is cold outside.  Please dress appropriately.  More than a sweatshirt is needed for outdoor recess.

Now that Christmas is over, we will return to our class text.  We will finish chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12 in January.  Our focus is the Old Testament.

The Spelling lessons for the month of January are 17, 18, 19, and 20.  Please remember to practice the test using www.spellingcity.com.  All spelling work is due on Thursdays.  Tests are Fridays, unless announced otherwise.  We do take the spelling tests using the iPads.

In Literature, we will read a class book, My Side of the Mountain.  We read the back cover, before we were all snowed in.  We will continue to use our class text.  The stories for the month of January are based on fables and folklore.

6th grade Math extra help is back up and running on the 10th.  It takes place Wednesday mornings at 8 AM.  We are currently studying the fraction unit.  We will master GCF, LCM, and Prime Factorization in order to expand our fraction skills.  The students will learn the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.  We will apply our knowledge to algebraic expressions and equations.

5th grade Math extra help is also returning.  It takes place on Monday mornings at 8 AM.  We are working on our graphing unit.  We will combine the graphing unit and the last fraction unit together for the test.  The last fraction chapter focuses on multiplying and dividing fractions.  Our next unit will be decimals.

A great conclusion to the month of January is Catholic School’s Week.  It is usually one of the students’ fondest memories.  We have many enjoyable events planned.  Keep your eye out for the Wednesday News.  It will have a schedule for the week.
