Visions of Sugar Plums...

Tis the Season!  There aren’t many weeks left in December.   I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break.  REST and RELAX!

The Jesse Tree is our main focus in religion.  The Jesse Tree is a pictorial representation of Jesus’ family tree.  The students made ornaments for the bulletin board, our mini class tree, and designed their own Jesse Tree.  We are also studying Advent and Christmas.    We will end December with a Christmas prayer service.  It takes place on Thursday, December 21st at 11:30.  The 21st is also a half day with no aftercare.  Please pick your children up at 12:30.

Please continue to use www.spellingcity.com to assist in weekly spelling practice.  The lessons for this month are 13 to 16.  The more you practice, the better your grade will be.  Don’t forget that all weekly spelling homework is due on Thursdays.

Our genre for the December book report is Christmas.  Each child picked out their favorite Christmas picture book.  They will read the story to their buddies using as much excitement and expressions as they can muster. For the month of November, our biographical character ran for president, and we made posters and speeches for their race.

In both 5th and 6th grade classes I have noticed a need to spend more time reinforcing the basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) at home.  A strong knowledge of the facts is necessary to do the more complicated math problems in our chapters.

In 6th grade math we finished our algebra unit.  We will start our integer unit.  Students will add, subtract, multiply and divide integers.  They need to have strong fact recall to succeed!  Extra help is Wednesday morning at 8 AM.  Please focus on M for www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.

The 5th grade is about to finish their first fraction chapter.  They will start adding and subtracting fractions next.  We will finish off the fractions unit shortly after Christmas break.  Extra help is Monday mornings at 8 AM.  Please focus on L for www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.

See you next year!  Mrs. Emond
