Home Students Classroom Pages Grade 6 - Mrs. Emond November News

November News

I can hardly believe that November is upon us.  We are closing the first quarter and report cards will be coming home on Wednesday, November 9th.  They are due back on Wednesday, November 15th.  As a reminder, conferences are Thursday, November 16th.  If you need another morning date, please let me know, so we can schedule a meeting.

In Religion we are studying the Old Testament.  We are currently focusing on Moses, the Exodus from Egypt, and the Ten Commandments.

In Literature we have just started our October Book Report.  The students picked a mystery book and will make a movie trailer out of their choice.  The book report genre for the month of November is Biography.  Their book needs to be approved by Friday, November 3rd.

The lessons in Spelling are 9, 10, 11 and 12.  Continue to use www.spellingcity.com, as many of the tests are on the iPads.  Lesson 12 is a review chapter and will be multiple choice.

Sixth grade math is currently working on Order of Operations and Pre-Algebra.  Students will be given multi-step problems that require a knowledge of the proper order to solve equations.  Students will solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division algebraic equations and expressions.  They are also completing the Tricky 24 project in class.  Extra Math Help is on Wednesday mornings at 8 AM, unless a change is announced in class.  The sections for www.ixl.com/signin/stchris are Z and AA.

Fifth grade is finishing up their division unit.  They will start their fraction unit.  We will study fractions for the next two months.  We will focus on greatest common factors, least common multiples, primes, composite numbers, and reducing fractions during the month of November.  Extra Help is on Monday mornings at 8 AM, unless a change is announced in class.  The sections for www.ixl.com/signin/stchris are D, F, and K.

Thank you,

Mrs. Emond
