Home Students Classroom Pages Grade 6 - Mrs. Emond May News

May News

May is a very busy month.  The sixth grade will go to Project Safeguard, which is a wonderful program about leadership, internet safety, and peer pressure.  It is one of my favorite events.  We have two very special Mary programs this month.  As an entire diocesan, we will witness the consecration of the school system to Mary.  The sixth grade will lead the school in the May Procession on Friday the 19th.  Polina was chosen as the May Queen, and Matt will be the crown bearer.

Spelling for the month will be lessons 32, 33, and 34.  All spelling can be found at www.spellingcity.com.  The homework is due on Thursdays and the tests are Fridays.

Religion will focus of Mary. We will also finish the text with chapters 25 and 26, the foundation of the Church.

In Literature, we are finishing two book reports.  One was an award winner and the other was a classic.  For the classic book report, the students wrote and illustrated their own version of the story.

The sixth grade will finish the percent unit.  They have focused on real-life math applications.  The last unit will compare the metric system and customary units.  Area, volume, and circumference are included in the measurement unit.  Extra help is on Wednesdays at 8 AM.  Sections R, S, T, and V are great places for extra practice on www.ixl.com/signin/stchris

The fifth grade will finish the measurement unit.  They are about to start my favorite unit.  The will learn the basic rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing algebraic equations.  They will finally get to solve integer equations.  Two negatives make a positive (in multiplication and division).  Extra help moves back to Mondays on 15th.  Sections Z, EE, V, and U are great places for extra practice onwww.ixl.com/signin/stchris.
