Welcome to Sixth Grade! If you have any questions or concerns, please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

I have been teaching at St. Christopher School for over 10 years. I started teaching as a 5th grade homeroom teacher, where I taught science to 5th and 6th grade. Then I became a 6th grade homeroom teacher, where I currently teach math to the 5th and 6th grade.

I grew up in various cities throughout the US and Germany, until my father was stationed in Massachusetts, settling in Nashua, NH. This was a fortunate turn of events, because it brought me to St. Christopher’s, first as a member of the parish and second as a teacher. I graduated from Keene State College, where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish.

April Showers

During the month of April, students will write and illustrate their own children’s storybook of the classic book that they read.  All work will be done during their literature blocks.  They will give their buddies a copy of the book to color.

This month, students will have Lessons 28, 29, and 30 spelling.  Since we are entering our final quarter, it is very important to remember to study for the weekly tests.  The words are found in their class text or on www.spellingcity.com.

The focus in Religion class is Jesus’ ministry, Easter, proverbs, and the formation of the Catholic Church.  The chapters in our text are 27, 16, and 17.

The sixth grade will complete a bridge building project as a final assessment to the graphing unit.  They will build bridges from toothpicks, index cards, popsicle sticks, or tongue depressors.  Their bridges must expand a 10 inch span and must hold at least two math textbooks.   The remainder of the month will be spent working on the geometry unit.   We will study polygons and angles.  We will study both the customary units of measure and the metric system.  Perimeter, area, surface area, and volume are included in the lessons.  Extra help is Wednesday at 8 A.M.  The Geometry sections (AA), (BB), and (CC) are the focus on www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.

The fifth grade is studying measurement.  They will learn to convert between the different measurements in the metric system.  Extra help is Thursday at 8 A.M.  The Measurement section (Y) is the focus on www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.

Catholic Schools Week takes place during the first week in February.  On Monday, we have our Day of Faith.  It began with a mass that was prepared by 5M and 2J.  We decorated our bulletin board with a blackboard and inspirational quotes from our patron saint, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.  On Tuesday, January 30th we will have our School Spirit Day.  Show your HUSKY PRIDE! We will also write paragraphs about why we love St. Chris.  We will have a Spanish rosary on Wednesday, January 31st.   The 6th grade has also been invited to attend Mass at BG on Wednesday.  On Thursday we have Beach Day!  Come in your favorite floral shirts and sunglasses!  We will have ice cream sundaes, thanks to the hot lunch program.  Yummy! On Friday we have PJ day with our buddies.  We start the day with bowling and end the day with a movie and popcorn.

In Spelling we will cover lessons 20, 21, 22 and 23.  Don’t forget to study the words each week.  The words can be tricky.  If the book is forgotten at school, the list can be found at www.spellingcity.com.
