Welcome to Sixth Grade! If you have any questions or concerns, please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

I have been teaching at St. Christopher School for over 10 years. I started teaching as a 5th grade homeroom teacher, where I taught science to 5th and 6th grade. Then I became a 6th grade homeroom teacher, where I currently teach math to the 5th and 6th grade.

I grew up in various cities throughout the US and Germany, until my father was stationed in Massachusetts, settling in Nashua, NH. This was a fortunate turn of events, because it brought me to St. Christopher’s, first as a member of the parish and second as a teacher. I graduated from Keene State College, where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish.

Welcome to the 6th Grade!

As summer vacation winds down, we look forward to a new school year.  AND what an exciting year it is going to be!

There are a few important dates for you to keep in mind.

  • 3 School Mass at NCRJHS – September 7th
  • 1st School Mass (6W) – September 9th
  • September 11th – 10 AM Back to School Mass (wear your uniform for a dress down pass)
  • September 12th – Parent Information Night

Please stop by your child’s class during Parent Information Night.  There will be a packet of information from your child’s core teachers and the sign-up sheet for conferences.

As a yearly tradition, 6E creates a class mural at the start of every school year.  They will brainstorm ideas, develop a theme, and paint pictures to represent the theme.  It is a must see.  Pictures will be posted upon completion.

Spelling lessons can be found on www.spellingcity.com.  Look up St. Christopher School and Melissa Emond.  The lessons for September are 1 – 4.  On Mondays students write the list words three times each.   They have a different activity every Tuesday.  On Wednesdays they complete the three pages in the text book for the lesson.  Tests are taken on Fridays with the iPads.

In Literature students are completing activities on their summer reading, The Fighting Ground.   The first book report genre has been assigned.  Students need to pick a book by Wednesday, September 7th.  They may choose another book written by Avi or a historical fiction book.

The sixth grade is completing a project on catapults.  They have to stick to a budget, complete an expense report, record and graph the results of their catapult launches.  We will then start chapter 1 which covers addition, subtraction, and place value.  Extra Help will begin on Wednesday, September 21st at 8 AM.

The fifth grade has started chapter 1.  It covers place value, addition, and subtraction.  Extra Help takes place on Monday mornings at 8 AM.  It begins Monday, September 12th.

We are ready for a great year!

Smile Mrs. Emond

June News

Graduation Day is almost upon us!  The Class of 2016 has worked hard this year!

We closed out May with some very special events.  Caroline and Mary-Kate led the whole school at our May Procession to honor Mary.  The sixth grade did a fantastic job preparing for this event.  We had our Field Day and Walk/Run.  Great job, RED!

The first week of June the sixth grade will have their class trips.  We will visit the Ecotarium, Science Day at Canobie Lake Park, and Old Sturbridge Village.  Thank you to all of the parents and teachers for chaperoning the trips.

Everyone is excited for the special events during the last week of school.  The 6th grade will have their annual fiesta with Senora Bichrest on the 6th.  We will go to a Silver Knights baseball game with the school and many parents on the 7th.  Our class will have a special retreat in school on the 8th.  Our special guest speaker will be Mr. Brian Flaherty, the Campus Minister at Trinity High School.  Snack and lunch will be provided, and this will be a free dress day.  Sixth grade parents will join the class for a luncheon and presentation of awards on the 9th.  Students will leave with their parents after the luncheon.

Students need to be in the school lobby by 6:30 PM on Friday, June 10th.  We will gather in front of the church for the class picture.  Parents are welcome to come outside to take pictures at this time.  If it rains, the picture will be taken in the school.

It has been a true pleasure to teach your children for the past two years.  I will miss them all and know they will succeed wherever life takes them.

Spring has Sprung!

We are preparing for a very full month.  The 6th grade has their annual Project Safeguard program, which takes place at Immaculate Conception.  It is an enjoyable and educational day for both parents and sixth graders.  The date is Tuesday, May 10th.

We have moved on to studying the New Testament in Religion.  The sixth grade will also honor the Blessed Mother by leading the whole school in our annual May Procession on May 20th

During the month of April, students wrote and illustrated their own version of a classic.  We created coloring books for our 1M buddies.  The next genre for the May book report is free choice.  The book needs to be read by the last Friday of the month.

In Math we are starting our measurement unit.  Students will work on the metric and customary units of measure.  We will also convert between the two.  Extra help is on Wednesday mornings at 8 AM.  Please continue to practice section S at www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.

The fifth grade will start their algebra section.    Extra help is still on Thursdays, but will return to Mondays on the 16th.  Please continue to practice section U at www.ixl.com/signin/stchris.

We have entered the fourth quarter and are quickly becoming aware of our upcoming graduation from St. Christopher School.  Before we know it, we will finish off our time here with the May Crowning, field trips, field day/fun-run, a retreat, a luncheon and the promotion ceremony.   Time flies when you're having fun!   Don't blink, because you just might miss it!
