May Newsletter

I can't believe May is here! The students have been working so hard and it has truly shown with all of the amazing work they have created! May is going to be another busy and fantastic month! Here is a look at what is happening:

English- The 5th grade students are finishing up their Adverbs chapter and then will focus on Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections.  They will not only further their understanding of these parts of speech but also learn how to use these parts of speech correctly in sentences. In writing, the students have done an excellent job with their rough drafts for their Tall Tales. The students will be peer editing and finishing up their final copy! Once we have completed our Tall Tale stories, we will be moving right into our Persuasive Writing unit. We will also continue to learn new vocabulary words and incorporate these into our writing.

The 6th grade students will also finish their Adverbs chapter and move on to furthering their understanding of Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections as well as learning about Simple, Compound, and Complex sentences. We have completed our Research Reports and all of the students did a wonderful job on these! We have now begun to work on our Persuasive Writing Unit. The students have been given the task to select a topic that they can feel is important to them and persuade others to agree with their position. We will also continue to learn new Vocabulary words using our Vocabulary Workshop workbooks.

Spelling- This month we will be focusing on the Review for Lessons 21-25, Lesson 26, Lesson 27, Lesson 28, and Lesson 29. I continue to encourage the students to use Spellingcity.com to review spelling words and prepare for weekly Spelling tests! It is also important to understand the meanings of these words as well!

Reading- Our final Book Report theme is Informational Reading. For this book report, the students will be creating a board game based on the information they learned from their book. The students received the directions and it will be due on May 30, 2018.

Religion- This month we will be working on Chapters 22, 25, and 26. These chapters focus on the sacraments of Matrimony, Holy Orders and understanding the importance of being One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. After we have completed our final chapter, we will then begin a sacraments book using the information we learned from our textbooks. Throughout this month we will also have our Ascension Mass on Thursday, May 10, 2018 and our May Crowning on Friday, May 18, 2018. It would be wonderful if you could join us for these!

Have a wonderful May!
