January News from 5M

happy_new_year Happy New Year to one and all!!  Wow! 2017 went so fast.  We made new friends and caught up with old ones and welcomed new students and welcomed back former students. We have grown both physically and educationally. Now we are ready to start the second half of the school year.

Science is going to help the students understand how the body works.  We will go from cells to systems which will lead to the Human Body Project.  This is chapter 5 in their text books. The project is the big project that the students enjoy creating.  Directions will go home January 3rd and will be due on January 18.  The sixth graders are learning about the Earth and Space and our place in there.

Spelling is lessons 14, 15, review of lessons: 11,12,13,14,and 15, and 16.  Make sure your child is practicing on spellingcity.com.

Reading will be the beginning of the class book of Ivan, The One and Only. We will read most of the book in class.  Sometimes I will read a chapter to them, other times they will read in pairs or silently.  They will have different worksheets that go along with the book.  The genre for the book report for the month is Fantasy.  It is due January 24, 2018.  They will be doing a different type book report this month.  They will be making a movie trailer and most of the work will be done in English class and in Computer class.

Religion will cover more of the sacraments and get us ready for Catholic School Week at the end of January.  This is a week where student participation is very high. There are lots of fun things planned and the schedule will be finalized soon. 5M and our buddy class, 2J, will be leading the Mass on January 29 at 9:15.  We hope that you will be able to join us.
