Home Students Classroom Pages Grade 5 - Mrs. Mitchell OCTOBER NEWS

autumn_picWell we made it through our first month of school.  The students are still learning the routines of four teachers as they move from class to class.  They are getting into the routine of gathering their supplies for each class too. This month they will continue to perfect this routine.

In Science, they just completed their first test on Chapter 3.   This month they learned about the classification of organisms and why scientists  classify different animals, insects, and one celled orgainisms the way that they do.  One of the culminating activities for this unit is to classify jelly beans.  Always a fun way to learn how a dichotomous key works.  The sixth grade will be learning about the Earth and its structure, plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes.

In Spelling we will start Lesson 5 and then we have the review of the first five lessons.  After that we will continue with Lessons 6 , 7, and 8.  Please have your child use spellingcity.com as a study aid since they have the majority of their tests on the iPads using spellingcity.com.

In Religion we will be exploring the meaning of vocations in our church.  This will lead us to Vocation Day which is on October 24.  5M will be leading the Mass that day so I hope you are able to join us for the 9:15 Mass.

The October bookreport, Mystery, is due on October 25. The rubric and directions will go home on Monday, October 2.  We will also be reading some of the stories in the anthology series Reading Street.
