Happy New Ye ar from5M

Welcome to 2016! Wow! What a year.  I can't believe that we are almost half way through the school year.  The students have learned so much already such as: the Scientific Method, Classification of Organisms, Growth and Survival of Plants and Animals, and Cells. They have learned more about the Sacraments of Eucharist, Confirmation, Vocations, the Liturgical Year, Advent, and Christmas. Spellingcity has helped to improve their spelling skills and they have read many different genres in their book reports and in class reading.

During January we'll be finishing up on cells and then learning about the human body.  This will lead to a project about the different systems in our wonderful bodies.  Directions and Rubric will be coming in a couple of weeks.  The students look forward to this project and always do a great job.

In Religion the different types of prayer will be covered along with getting ready for Catholic School's Week which actually starts the last Sunday in January and fully begins on February 1, 2016.

In Spelling we will cover lessons 15, review of 11-15, 16, and 17.  Don't forget to use spellingcity.com to help study and prepare for the weekly tests.  Also the students will be having in class spelling bees to get ready for the school Spelling Bee on January 26 at 1:30.

The book report for the month is due on January 22.  The genre is Fantasy.  The rubric will go home the first week of January.  We will also start reading Stone Fox as a class.  The students will be provided a copy of the book to use in class.

Some important dates to remember:

Jan. 6-Mass at 9:15

Jan. 10- Open House at 11:30

Jan. 14- Winter Arts Festival at 6:00

December Tidings

Welcome to December!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. What a difference a year makes. Can you believe last year at this time we were still shoveling out from our first snow storm.  This year brought us lovely warm weather so that we could visit all our family and friends.

We were very busy in November learning about classifications of organisms, the structure of plants and animals, the sacrament of Confirmation, preparing for the Thanksgiving prayer service. The kids did an awesome job.

This this month will be just as busy. The students will be learning about instincts, physical and behavioral adaptations, and then the cell and its parts in Science. In Spelling we will be covering lessons 11, 12, 13, and 14.  Don't forget to use spellingcity to help with studying. The genre for the book  report is Poetry. The activity that goes along with the poetry will be done in class.  The students will be  given a rubric in class and should be done in one day.  We will be learning more about Advent and the Christmas season in Religion.  We also will be sharing preparation, along with 5V, of the mass for the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th at 9:15.  Please come and join us.

The Christmas party will be on December 22 at about 1:30.  Details will come later in the month.

December 23rd will be an early release and no aftercare.

5M wishes you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

Mrs. Mitchell, Pierce, Charlie, Maryfei, Josh, Krystal, Joe, Madelynn, Brenna, Anna, Nathan, Polina, Derek, Madison, Trevor, Emily, Matt, Kelechi, Cam, Ambrose, Bella, Rohan, Kaylie, Kavin, Jamie, and Annika.

November Notes 5M

October was a very busy month for 5M.  We led the Vocation Day Mass with Fr. John as our celebrant. The class got together with our buddies in 2J on Vocation Day too for a craft. We went to the Museum of Science in Boston and experienced the wonders of Pixar.  The students have been enjoying all the new art projects with Mrs. Fessenden and Miss Daigle has been teaching them how to play the ukulele.

November looks to be just as busy. We will be attending mass on November 2nd for the celebration of All Souls Day, 4T is preparing. The class will be leading the Thanksgiving Prayer service on November 25 at 9:15.  Please join us for the morning. Remember also that it is an early release day and no aftercare. The students will be learning about Baptism, the Liturgical Year, and Advent during the month in Religion.

In Spelling lessons 8, 9, 10, and review week of lessons 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.  Don't forget to check out spellingcity.com to help with studying for the tests.  Most of the tests are taken on the iPads.

Science will be completing the chapter on Classfying organisms. The test will be November 6 and then we will be focusing on Growth and Structures of  living organisms.  It will cover adaptations, life cycles, and physical structures of animals and plants.  The 6th grade will be covering the atmosphere which will lead to learning about weather and predicting the weather.

The November book report is Historical Fiction. The rubric went home already (hopefully not in a locker) and it is due on November 20.

5M would like to wish you a very nice Thanksgiving with family and friends,

Mrs. Mitchell, Pierce, Charlie, Maryfei, Josh, Krystal, Joe, Madelynn, Brenna, Anna, Nathan, Polina,  Derek, Madison, Trevor, Emily, Matthew, Kelechi, Cameron, Ambrose, Bella, Rohan, Kaylie, Kavin, Jamie, and Annika
