I have been a teacher for over 15 years. I enjoy working with students in the upper elementary grades and my favorite subjects are Social Studies and Reading. I enjoy reading and going to the beach.

September in 4D

We are off to a great start in 4D.  I have enjoyed getting to know each of the students during the first week of school.  We spent time talking about classroom rules and expectations.  We also learned about the classroom routine.  We are ready to face the curriculum head on!

Thursday-Physical Education

In 4th grade this year, I will be teaching Social Studies and Mrs. T will be teaching Science.  We will switch for 30 minutes each day with the exception of Thursday.  If you have any questions regarding Science, please direct those to Mrs. T.

Here is what you can expect to see in the coming weeks as we journey into the 4th grade curriculum.

Math-We will be working on place value concepts including place value up to the millions, rounding, and comparing numbers.  We will also begin working on our multiplication facts.

Language Arts-We will explore many grammar concepts using  the Voyages in English book.  We will begin with Sentences.  This is the book we will use to explore various writing concepts beginning with Personal Narrative.  We will use our reading series, Reading Street, to focus on reading comprehension and other reading skills.  This year we will begin by reading a class novel together.  The novel we will read is Because of Winn Dixie.

Social Studies-We have started the year review some Social Studies concepts such as the 7 continents and the 4 oceans.  We will next move into our exploration of the Regions of the United States starting with the Northeast.  Throughout the year, the students will be learning their states and capitals and will also be learning where the states are on a map.

Religion-We will be reminding ourselves about the role Jesus plays in our lives before moving into a more in depth study of the Ten Commandments.

June Already!

Wow!  June already!  We only have 8 ½ days left of 4th grade!  I can’t even believe how fast this year went by!  What a great year it has been!  I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of my students this year.  We have a lot going on these last few days of the school year.  They include our Mass on Friday, June 3rd, 3 field trips and some other fun activities!  I plan to keep the academics going in between all these fun things right up until the end!  Thank you parents for all your support this year!  I hope you have a great and restful summer!

Math:  We are finishing our Geometry unit with a test on Thursday, June 2nd.

Reading:  We will finish reading Paul Bunyan and will also read “How Tia Lola Came to Stay.”  This is a really cute story with some colorful characters!

Book Report:  Story Cubes are due June 2nd!

Spelling:  We will work on Unit 29 during the week of May 31st.  This will be the last Spelling Unit with a test on June 3rd.

Religion:  We are preparing to present our Mass on June 3rd.

Social Studies:  Students will take the last 50/50 test on June 1st

29 Days and Counting!

I can’t believe I am saying this, but we only have 29 days left of 4th grade!  April is behind us and the beautiful May weather is upon us!  We still have lots of things to do and lots of material to cover in class, so please remind your child to stay focused and work hard until the very end!  Also, please don’t forget to check those blue and purple folders for grades!

Math:  This month we will focus on Decimal concepts in Math.  In addition, we will touch on some geometry and measurement concepts.


English:  We will finish our exploration of verbs before moving onto adverbs.  We will revisit what writing a paragraph means and will do some creative writing this month.


Reading:  We are back in our Reading Street Book after finishing Stuart Little. We will read Paul Bunyan and How Tia Lola Came to Stay.  We will continue to focus on vocabulary and comprehension. We will also finish Ice Cream Heroes which is our read aloud book.


Book Report:  Students presented their Biography projects before vacation!  What a great job!! To see my Picasa Album click here!  We are getting ready to complete our last book report.  Students may choose a grade appropriate book that is a minimum of 100 pages from any genre.  They will be creating a Story Cube.  This will be distributed the week of May 2nd.  The book report will be due no later than June 2nd but can be handed in any time before that!  The story cube can be confusing to assemble so I will post pictures of the finished product and will have examples in the classroom for the kids to look at. 


Spelling:  We begin after vacation with the review of Units 20-25 before moving onto the last 5 Units in Spelling.  These units consist of the following spelling patterns:  Schwa Sound, Prefixes, Suffixes, and Silent Consonants.


Religion:  We have finished reading about the 10 Commandments.  We will now be reading about ways to apply these Commandments to our daily lives.  4D will be preparing the school Mass that will take place on June 3rd at 9:15.  Please join us at church if you can!


Social Studies:  We will finish the West region during the first 2 weeks of May.  We will finish the year talking about all things New Hampshire.  Students should be reviewing their states and capitals from all the regions.  We will be having the first 50/50 Test on Friday, May 15, 2015.  Students will work to become members of the 50/50 club by being able to name all 50 capitals and being able to label the 50 states on a map!  A practice packet will be available in my classroom for anyone who would like it.  Everyone will attempt to become members of the 50/50 club and should try their best.
