I have taught 3rd grade for over 10 years.  My son Jake is a graduate of St. Christopher School! My hobbies include reading, traveling, going to the beach in the summer, and spending time with my family.

October News in 3G

Happy Fall!  We have really been busy since school started!  The children are adjusting very nicely to the heavier workload, and are up for some of the harder challenges.

In Language Arts, we have learned a lot about sentence structure, subjects, and predicates, and are practicing these in our Journal writing and Spelling sentences.  We also wrote a creative piece on Fall.  It is on display on the bulletin board outside our classroom.  Our Reading stories the past few weeks have focused on creative thinking and fantasy versus reality.  Long and short vowel sounds have been the task in Phonics.  Our first book report is due on October 29th.  It can be any book the children choose, but has to be at least 100 pages long.  A mobile will be created and hang from the ceiling in our classroom.

In Religion, we are talking about how to live like the disciples did.  Jesus died for us, so what can we do each day to show Jesus we love Him?  We have been blessed to have Sr. Elizabeth through the Adopted Religious Program.  She has visited us once and will be with us the first Tuesday of each month.

I teach Social Studies to both 3rd grades.  We have been learning about communities around the world.  Comparing communities has taught us that there are a lot of places just like us, while some places are extremely different.  The Eno board and Brainpopjr.com has enriched these lessons with photos and virtual tours of some cities.

In Math, we have covered place value, regrouping, rounding, and making tens to make adding easier.  We will be moving into subtraction with larger numbers in our next chapter.  I would recommend reviewing basic addition and subtraction facts each night with your child.  This will help when we move on to larger numbers.

Our buddy class this year is Mrs. Landry's Pre-K class.  We will meet with them on Tuesday for snack and a "Tumblebooks" story and then monthly afterwards.

Look for more updates next time.
