February News

We've had so much snow since we returned from Christmas Vacation!  Despite all of the snow days, we have been busy, perhaps even more so getting caught up! Smile

Some Highlights so far in 2011:

*Catholic School Week was great fun as usual, and we enjoyed our time celebrating our gift of attending a Catholic school.

*Our Valentine's Day party where we enjoyed some yummy goodies and exchanged valentines.

*Time spent with our Pre-K buddies.

*Visit from Sr. Elizabeth

*Going to Mrs. T's classroom for poetry each Friday afternoon.

We have really expanded our Math knowledge in the past few weeks!  We are learning (and doing quite well) with larger multiplication with regrouping and division with remainders.  Just a reminder to continue reviewing those basic facts.

In Social Studies, we just finished our unit on explorers and are about to begin learning about inventions and how these make our lives better today.

We are continuing with Verbs in Grammar--boy there are so many different kinds of verbs!

February Vacation is right around the corner and we are getting our item ready for the auction!  Our Famous African American book report is due Feb. 23rd, a diary of overcoming difficulty to make a difference in the world!

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

December News

3G hopes you are having a wonderful holiday season.  We have certainly been busy preparing for Christmas here at school!

Advent is our theme in Religion, and we have been "preparing" for Christmas.  Our bulletin board shows this, and we have discussed things we could do to get ready and truly celebrate the birth of Christ.  We are certainly in the holiday spirit and with all of the activities this month, it is easy to see why!  On Dec. 2, Shopping for Kids took place and there were some wonderful items to purchase.  On Dec. 17, our Pre-K buddy class will join us for a Christmas activity. On Dec. 14, we will present our concert, "Listen to the Angels," with the kindergarten, first, and second grades.  Our Christmas party will be on Dec. 22.  LOTS to do!!

Division is keeping us busy in Math.  We have been relating division and multiplication to help us remember our facts.  Math Bingo and Around the World keeps us on our toes and gets us thinking quickly!  Reviewing at home will reinforce this too.

We just finished Pronouns and are on to Verbs in English.  Our vocabulary is steadily improving as well, as we move through our stories in Reading.  These are making our journal writing much more interesting!  We are becoming experts at finding words in the dictionary too!  A reminder that the diorama book report is due Dec. 21st.

We hope you and your family have a blessed holiday season!  Stay healthy and have fun!  See you in 2011!

November News

Can you believe we are approaching the Thanksgiving holiday already?!  Time sure flies when you are busy!

Third grade has begun multiplication in Math and it is a favorite among the students.  They enjoy competing against each other trying to see who knows it the fastest and "homework is fun now" according to them.  They will be required to study regularly to prepare for pop quizzes and to know the basics in order to move on.  They have been given a fact sheet and a multiplication table as study guides.  Keep practicing!

In Social Studies, there have been many wonderful discussions on our freedoms and why we are lucky to live in the United States.  Citizenship, rights and responsibilities, symbols, cultures, ancestors, and immigrants have been the focus.

Sr. Elizabeth visited us to talk about the Saints and how we can be more like them.  It is truly a great experience for the class to be able to discuss this with her.  They look forward to it each month.

We will meet with our Pre-K buddies this week to do a fun Thanksgiving activity.  3G did a "we are thankful for..." bulletin board which is outside of the classroom.  The result is really cute!

Just a few reminders:

Conferences are scheduled for Tues. Nov. 23rd.

Wednesday Nov. 24th is a half day.  No school 25th and 26th.

The next book report (diorama) is due Dec. 21st.

Have a wonderful holiday!
