March News

I hope you all had a fun and relaxing February vacation.  It was wonderful to see all of the smiling faces return to school ready to learn some more and share their vacation stories.  There are some fun things in store for the month.

In Religion, we will be talking about Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.  This is a very special time of year, and we will be celebrating with Stations of the Cross each Friday.

In Math, the focus this month is on statistics and probability, surveys, graphs mean, median, and mode.  We will do some fun experiments and data collections with this.  Don't forget to check out IXL Math and Multiplication.com for further practice.

In Language Arts, we will learn about prepositions, read folk tales from around the world, and talk about cause and effect.  We are continuing working on our writing skills, and making our journal entries more creative using some of the vocabulary we have learned.

In Social Studies, we will soon be traveling with the explorers to the first settlements of Jamestown, VA., St. Augustine, FL., and Quebec City.  Our map skills will continue to be reinforced throughout this chapter.

There are some important dates to remember this month.

March 5--Family Dance at 6:00

March 10--STEM Fair at 6:00

March 11--Early Release at 12:30

March 14-18--Terra Nova Testing

March 18--St. Patrick's Day Mass

February News

February will be another busy month for third grade!  There is so much to do and have fun too! Catholic Schools Week is the first week and many exciting activities are planned!

Math-We continue to review our multiplication and division facts.  We are concentrating on 6, 7, 8, and 9, and will soon begin to multiply three numbers.  Eno board games and timed tests help to reinforce the facts, but continuous practice at home is necessary.

Language Arts-Verbs, verbs, and more verbs!  We are learning about action, helping, irregular, and tenses.  Reading sentences and picking out the verbs will be the focus this month.  Our goal is to have more creative writing!  Context clues, singular and plural pronouns will be stressed as well.  Our next book report is due February 16th.  Happy reading!

Religion-The Church continues to teach the true message of Jesus is the focus.  We will understand what it means to profess our faith through The Apostles Creed and the different kinds of prayer and learn the parts of the mass.   Lent begins this month starting with the Ash Wednesday Mass on the 10th (3G and 3D will be preparing) and Stations of the Cross on Friday afternoons.

Social Studies-In our next chapter, we will be looking at places where communities started.  We will discuss climates and landforms, natural resources and conserving energy.

We will be having a small Valentine's Day celebration on the 12th.
