April News

April Showers Bring May Flowers!

Hopefully we will have some warmer weather soon and start seeing the beautiful colors of Spring!  It's hard to believe we only have a few months left.

Math:  We have moved on to measurement and time and temperature.  We will be continuing with multiplication with 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers with and without regrouping.  Please continue to review the basic facts and go to IXL.com and multiplication.com for further practice.  The 3rd graders seem to really enjoy this topic and are doing quite well with comparing different units of measure.

Language Arts:  Adjectives and adverbs are the focus this month.  We continue to review the parts of speech, while we move on.  We have been picking apart sentences and identifying each word and how it's used in the sentence.  A reminder that the book report is due April 19th.

Social Studies:  We are in the midst of comparing towns in Colorado, Washington, and Indianapolis and their history. We will be continuing with our explorers.  There are a lot of explorers from many countries!  We are taking our time with this chapter because there is so much to remember.  Map skills will be enhanced this month.

Religion:  We are learning about Christianity across the world and looking at how other cultures celebrate.  We will also be discussing the Sacraments and their meanings.  What makes them special in our faith?  Why should we receive them?  A reminder that 3G is preparing the Ascension Thursday Mass in May!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

You may read any chapter book you choose, at least 100 pages. Have fun with this and use your imagination!

This will be due Tuesday, April 19th.

March News

I hope you all had a fun and relaxing February vacation.  It was wonderful to see all of the smiling faces return to school ready to learn some more and share their vacation stories.  There are some fun things in store for the month.

In Religion, we will be talking about Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.  This is a very special time of year, and we will be celebrating with Stations of the Cross each Friday.

In Math, the focus this month is on statistics and probability, surveys, graphs mean, median, and mode.  We will do some fun experiments and data collections with this.  Don't forget to check out IXL Math and Multiplication.com for further practice.

In Language Arts, we will learn about prepositions, read folk tales from around the world, and talk about cause and effect.  We are continuing working on our writing skills, and making our journal entries more creative using some of the vocabulary we have learned.

In Social Studies, we will soon be traveling with the explorers to the first settlements of Jamestown, VA., St. Augustine, FL., and Quebec City.  Our map skills will continue to be reinforced throughout this chapter.

There are some important dates to remember this month.
