I have taught 3rd grade for over 10 years.  My son Jake is a graduate of St. Christopher School! My hobbies include reading, traveling, going to the beach in the summer, and spending time with my family.

September News

We have almost completed our first month of third grade and have been very busy!  We have reviewed skills from second grade and are beginning to learn some new things.  Concentration this year will be on taking accurate notes, reading to find information, and study skills.

In Math, we are focusing on place value, comparing and ordering numbers, and rounding.  Chapter 2 will involve higher addition and subtraction.  Please continue to review those math facts, as we will be starting timed quizzes soon.

In Language Arts, we are continuing with short and long vowel sounds, author's purpose of writing, prefixes and suffixes, subjects and predicates, types of sentences, and vocabulary skills.  I'm hoping to see these skills incorporated into the journal writing each week.  Spelling tests are on Fridays, and the students can find the weekly words on www.spellingcity.com.

In Religion, we are learning about the teachings of Jesus and the parts of the Mass.  All of the Religion tests are open book, so the students are encouraged to look back in the chapter to find their answers.

In Social Studies, we are focusing on communities around the world.  Definitions are written at the beginning of each chaper.  Map skills are continuously reviewed as we explore different parts of the world.

We are off to a great start!  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!
