February News

February will be another busy month for third grade!  There is so much to do and have fun too! Catholic Schools Week was a great way to start off this month!

Math-We continue to review our multiplication and division facts.  We are concentrating on 6, 7, 8, and 9, and will soon begin to multiply three numbers.  Eno board games and timed tests help to reinforce the facts, but continuous practice at home is necessary.

Language Arts-Verbs, verbs, and more verbs!  We are learning about action, helping, irregular, and tenses.  Reading sentences and picking out the verbs will be the focus this month.  Our goal is to have more creative writing!  Context clues, singular and plural pronouns will be stressed as well.

Religion-The Church continues to teach the true message of Jesus is the focus.  We will understand what it means to profess our faith through The Apostles Creed and the different kinds of prayer and learn the parts of the mass.

Social Studies-In this chapter, we will be looking at places where communities started.  We will discuss climates and landforms, natural resources and conserving energy.

We will be having a small Valentine's Day celebration on the 14th.

Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns.

Celebrating Black History Month

February is Black History Month and a remembrance to the important people and events in African American History. We have included a list of famous African Americans for you to choose from. You may be reading about a Civil Rights Leader, Educator, Government Official, Inventor, Athlete, Musician, or Astronaut.

This book report is called “Dear Diary” and you will be writing as if you are the character. You are to design a diary or journal.  After reading your book, write at least 7 entries that might have been written by the character. Remember, in a diary or journal you are writing with feeling and emotion of the events that are taking place – good or bad. Please provide plenty of details about these events. You certainly may include pictures throughout your diary or journal. Be creative with this and really put yourself in the character’s shoes – become this person as you are writing and think about what feelings and thoughts you would have if this was you.

Please make sure you include the title and author of your book(s). Have fun with this and maybe you will learn a little about yourself along the way!

Langston Hughes . Duke Ellington . Willie Mays . Hank Aaron . George Washington Carver . Muhammad Ali . Wilma Rudolph . Maya Angelou . Martin Luther King Jr. . Coretta Scott King . Rosa Parks . January News

Happy New Year 2017!!!

It was great to see everyone back from vacation.  I hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends.

January is full of fun things, and we will be busy!

Math: Division and multiplication are the themes this month.  We will look at how division and multiplication are related.  To reinforce basic skills, we will practice fact families, have timed quizzes, and play math games.  Please remember to visit IXL.com and multiplication.com for more practice at home.

Religion:  We will learn more about The Apostle's Creed and how the church continues to teach the true message of Jesus.

Social Studies:  Both third grades will study location, climate, and natural resources and how those affect people.  We will "travel" to Montana, Alaska, Hawaii, and Texas and compare and contrast different regions.

Language Arts:  Our focus will be on suffixes, action verbs, tenses of verbs, subject-verb agreement, and irregular verbs.  Adjectives are coming soon!  We are trying to make our journal writing more descriptive and interesting.  Our next book report will center around Black History Month and is due mid-February.  Details are coming soon.

Please feel free to come to me with any questions or concerns you may have.
