I have taught 3rd grade for 8 years and this is my 4th year at St. Christopher School.  My husband, son, and I live in Nashua with our 2 cats and 1 dog.  My son Jake is a first grader here at St. Christopher School.

My hobbies include reading, traveling, going to the beach in the summer, and spending time with my family.

3G January News

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  We started 2010 ready to get back into the swing of things!  As we build on our previous skills, work is becoming a little more difficult, but 3G is always up for the challenge.

Sr. Elizabeth and Senora Lourdes continue to enrich our curriculum, and we are learning a few Spanish songs.  Fr.  Bob visited us on January 11th and spent his time talking about the apostles and how we should live as they did.

Math is keeping us busy with multiplication and division through fact families.  We are learning little tricks to help us remember our facts and are playing games and doing quick quizzes too.  Very soon, we will start multiplying three numbers and double digit numbers, so we must master the basics!

We just started our next chapter in Social Studies which will focus on different industries throughout the United States and government.

Mrs. T and Mrs. Mendel keep 3rd grade busy with Science and English.

Just a few reminders:

Catholic School's Week is next week.  There is a schedule of events which will be sent home.

The February book report has been assigned and is due Feb. 17th.  It is in honor of Black History Month and is a diary/journal based on a famous African-American.

Recorder money (if you are purchasing one) is due to Mrs. Polcari so she can place the orders.

3G December News

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  It was great speaking with you all during the conferences.  We have been busy with all kinds of activities in the last month and will continue to be until the end of 2009!

3G has the opportunity this year to be buddies with both Pre-K classes.  We got together with both classes for some fun on the playground and snack, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all!  There are some really cute pictures up in the classroom of this.  We plan to get together again for some reading time!

Our adopted priest Father Bob,  came to visit last month.  We had the chance to ask him all kinds of questions and he was very excited to share his knowledge with the class.  We are looking forward to our monthly visits with him!  Our next visit is scheduled for Dec. 14th!  This is a great addition to our Religion curriculum.  We have been learning about Advent, so check out our bulletin board display.

In class, we are into multiplication and the kids are doing really well!  Each student has a paper of multiplication tables, which should be memorized.  This is allowed for homework and classwork, as they are still learning.  We play games, learn riddles, and do flash cards, all to help with the mastery of the basic facts.  Because of the continuous exposure visually, the goal is to just look at it and know it!  Unannounced quizzes will be included in this unit, so be ready!

The mobile book reports are hanging from the ceiling in our classroom and they look amazing!  The creativity and effort really shine through.  The class has presented these reports and even gave a critique of the book they chose.  It was fun to hear the "reporter" in them.  Our next book report is due Dec. 21st!

In science, the 3rd and 4th grades made dioramas of different ecosystems.  They presented to each other and the projects were full of really interesting facts.  A lot of work went into these and they should be proud!  We displayed these in the hallway at school so he other classes could enjoy looking at them too.

Just a few reminders:  **Christmas shopping for 3G  Dec. 3rd at 10:30.  **3rd grade Social Studies test Dec. 4th.  **  Grades 1-3 Christmas Concert  Dec. 10th at 10:00.  **Prayer Service 9:15 & Early Release 12:30 on Dec. 23rd.  We are planning to have a Christmas party with 3M!  Once everything is finalized, information will be sent home.  Please remember to check planners and notices sent home for any additional information.

3G wishes you all a very blessed holiday season!

October News

Third grade is in full swing and boy are we busy!  We have taken a few tests and can see that there is a lot of information to study.  Just a reminder to parents--please check your child's planner each day so you are aware of upcoming tests and homework assignments.

The first book report has been assigned and is due Nov. 20th.  We have a Halloween party planned for October 30th.  Mrs. Dow (Rita's mom) or I will send more information soon.  You are more than welcome to join us!

In Social Studies, we are learning about different communities throughout the United States, as well as other countries.  We are working on labeling the 50 states, Canada and Mexico, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and the Gulf of Mexico.  Both 3rd and 4th grade are doing this project.  As we read about other places, it is important to know where they are in the world.

In Math, we are completing chapter 2 with larger addition.  We will be starting multiplication soon!  In our Math Enrichment, we are tackling word problems.

Until next time...
