April News

Hopefully we will have some warmer weather soon and start seeing the beautiful colors of Spring!  It's hard to believe we only have a few months left.

Math:  We will be moving on to measurement, time, and temperature.  We will be continuing with multiplication with 2, 3, and 4 digit numbers with and without regrouping.  Please continue to review the basic facts and go to IXL.com and multiplication.com for further practice.

Language Arts:  Adjectives and adverbs are the focus this month.  We continue to review the parts of speech, while we move on.  We have been picking apart sentences and identifying each word and how it's used in the sentence.  Our journal writing is becoming more interesting with the use of these descriptive words. A reminder that the book report is due April 20th.

Social Studies:  We will be continuing this month with our explorers.  There are a lot of explorers from many countries!  We are taking our time with this chapter because there is so much to remember.  Map skills will be enhanced this month.

Religion:  We are learning about Christianity across the world and looking at how other cultures celebrate.  We will also be discussing the Sacraments and their meanings.  What makes them special in our faith?  Why should we receive them?  A reminder that 3G and 3D will be preparing the Ascension Thursday Mass in May!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

In Language Arts, we will learn about prepositions, read folk tales from around the world, and talk about cause and effect.  We are continuing working on our writing skills, and making our journal entries more creative using some of the vocabulary we have learned.

In Social Studies, we will be discussing how communities grew in Glenwood Springs, CO., Seattle, WA., and Indianapolis, IN.

February News

February will be another busy month for third grade!  There is so much to do and have fun too! Catholic Schools Week was a great way to start off this month!

Math-We continue to review our multiplication and division facts.  We are concentrating on 6, 7, 8, and 9, and will soon begin to multiply three numbers.  Eno board games and timed tests help to reinforce the facts, but continuous practice at home is necessary.

Language Arts-Verbs, verbs, and more verbs!  We are learning about action, helping, irregular, and tenses.  Reading sentences and picking out the verbs will be the focus this month.  Our goal is to have more creative writing!  Context clues, singular and plural pronouns will be stressed as well.

Religion-The Church continues to teach the true message of Jesus is the focus.  We will understand what it means to profess our faith through The Apostles Creed and the different kinds of prayer and learn the parts of the mass.

Social Studies-In this chapter, we will be looking at places where communities started.  We will discuss climates and landforms, natural resources and conserving energy.

We will be having a small Valentine's Day celebration on the 14th.

Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns.
