May is Marvelous in 1M!

May is marvelous with so many things.

We look forward to what May brings...

RELIGION...May is the month of Mary, our Mother in Heaven.  We will be saying a decade of the rosary daily.  We have our May Procession.  We will also be learning about the parts of the Mass.

MATH...We continue on 2 digit addition and will start on 2 digit subtraction.  We continue with story problems and looking for key words that help us know if a problem is solved using addition or subtraction.  Learning about shapes and attributes of shapes is discussed.  Continued practice on knowing our addition and subtraction facts to 12 and beyond is continuing!

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES... In Science we will learn about Summer weather.  We will talk about summer clouds, thunderstorms and temperatures. Learning about Summer safety while swimming and playing outside,  in a storm, and protecting ourselves from the sun and insects will be talked about.

Learning about our state of New Hampshire and it's resources is May's topic! We will talk about our mountains and rivers and the towns we live in.  We will learn about many places to visit in New Hampshire this summer!

LANGUAGE ARTS...Each week we continue with a new story in Reading and Comprehension skills. We will do a Paper Bag Book Report this month! A paper bag is decorated to represent the story and the bag is filled with items that pertain to the story. It is then presented to the class!

New Spelling words continue to be introduced and a dictation and spelling test is given weekly.

We are learning about beginning and ending blends and consonant digraphs in Phonics.  Review on short and long vowels continues. Daily sentence writing and focusing on sentence beginnings and endings, detailed sentences using adjectives that make sentences interesting will continue!
