Grade 1 - Mrs. Moore

Marilyn Moore

Welcome to First Grade! First Grade is a wonderful grade. The children are fun, creative, challenging and so eager to learn. The most rewarding part of this grade is having all the children reading and writing by the end of the year. The love of reading is the goal in my classroom!

I have had the honor of being a First Grade teacher at St. Christopher's for over 30 years! I have had the pleasure of teaching the children of my former students! My husband and I live in Nashua and I have two adult daughters. We have two cats!

1M Marches into March!

Did you hear that March is here??

And in LANGUAGE ARTS ... we are learning about Homophones, words that sound the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.  We continue working on nouns and proper nouns, verbs that add s and es, adjectives, adverbs and prounouns!  We are completing our long vowels and pattern rules that are with them. Proper sentence structure and letter formation is a daily expectation. Daily journal writing helps us with this! We are on Lesson 20 of spelling and continue to learn to spell these new words and understand their meanings.  Animal Life cycles is our Reading topic and we are understanding the difference between FACT and OPINION.

Parts of a whole and FRACTIONS are topics in MATH.  We are working on our STEM Fraction project. Learning if something is Possible, Impossible or Certain is another concept being studied.  Addition and subtraction facts and word problems are reviewed daily.

LENT and The Sacraments are topics in RELIGION. We will learn about HOLY WEEK and begin practicing for our HOLY THURSDAY Para-Liturgy which both first grades are in charge of.

ANIMAL LIFE CYCLES and HABITATS are SCIENCE topics along with the coming of what SPRING brings! Changes in weather patterns and cloud formations and storms are very influential!
