Grade 1 - Mrs. Moore

Marilyn Moore

Welcome to First Grade! First Grade is a wonderful grade. The children are fun, creative, challenging and so eager to learn. The most rewarding part of this grade is having all the children reading and writing by the end of the year. The love of reading is the goal in my classroom!

I have had the honor of being a First Grade teacher at St. Christopher's for over 30 years! I have had the pleasure of teaching the children of my former students! My husband and I live in Nashua and I have two adult daughters. We have two cats!

And January 2017 begins!!!!????

a new year of learning and fun in 1M!

Religion....  We continue learning about the Holy Spirit and the works of the apostles.  Each Friday we use our weekly PARABLE magazine to learn about the weekends gosple and its meaning.  Our magazine has a small activity or craft that goes with the magazine that the children and teacher love!

Math...We continue addition and subtraction daily and this is reinforced at home through XTRAMATH.COM and IXL.COM.  Using flash cards at home is also reinforced.  We will begin learning about numbers and the groups of tens and ones in the number. Counting by 2's, 5's and even and odd numbers continue to be reviewed.

We continue new weekly Spelling words that are tested on each Friday.  Learning to read and spell them is worked on daily in class and reinforced at home through SPELLINGCITY.COM. The class is doing a good job writing sentences in their daily journals! Creativity is improving and using adjectives and adverbs is improving!  Each day we use our PEARSON READING STREET anthology and practice book plus the online reading program that accompanies it! Reading Comprehension is the main area of focus this month! Many children are able to read at a higher level of reading and have no idea what they have read! Learning how to improve this will help in Math Story problems also.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK  is January 29th to February 4th!  Many daily fun and educational activities are planned for the week!
