Grade 1 - Mrs. Moore

Marilyn Moore

Welcome to First Grade! First Grade is a wonderful grade. The children are fun, creative, challenging and so eager to learn. The most rewarding part of this grade is having all the children reading and writing by the end of the year. The love of reading is the goal in my classroom!

I have had the honor of being a First Grade teacher at St. Christopher's for over 30 years! I have had the pleasure of teaching the children of my former students! My husband and I live in Nashua and I have two adult daughters. We have two cats!

Our summertime fun is very near.

Remember to read, remember to run,

play outside and have lots of fun.

Listen to mom. Listen to dad.

They are the best parents you could ever have.

Say your prayers and be a friend that is true.

These are the summer things I want you to do!

Marvelous May in 1M!

May is the month of Mary and flowers

Sometimes we get some thundershowers!

The playground is open

our jackets are gone.

The days are sunny and staying bright so long!

And the learning continues...

RELIGION...During the month of May we will focus on Mary and the rosary.  Each day we will say a decade of the rosary together. Each child will use a rosary and we follow the prayers online and recite them together.  This month we also have our traditional May Crowning in the church on Friday May 19 at 9:15.

MATH... Addition and Subtraction of 2 digit numbers without borrowing will be worked on in preparation for Grade 2. We also continue reading Math story problems and using key words to decide if we write an addition or subtraction fact to solve the problem. 2 and 3 step problems will be reinforced.

LANGUAGE ARTS... New Spelling and bonus words are given each week. The class has a Spelling Dictation test on Thursday and a Spelling test on Friday. Using SpellingCity.com at home and school reinforces the learning of these weekly words.  Working in our  Pearson Reading Street series together and online is a daily occurrence. Author's Purpose and understand story genre is part of each weekly story. Nouns, pronouns, verbs and adverbs and adjectives are required in our daily writing to make fantastic sentences! And of course proper sentence beginnings and endings are needed. Learning  Blends and digraphs at word beginnings and endings  are part of Phonics during May.  Reviewing short and long vowel patterns their spelling , and the rules for vowels will be worked on.

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES...We will discuss Summer safety while biking, swimming and being outside!  Playing fairly and being a good friend while on our summer teams or neighborhood group are 2 important topics we will talk about.  Animal habitats,  and animals, insects and  how they help or can harm us are May's topics!  Memorial Day and the importance of remembering all those who were  or are in the service and work to keep our country safe is a very important topic for discussion in May.

We wish all our friends old and new a lovely month of May!
