Parent Group

The St. Christopher School Parent Group works to provide a variety of fun and educational enrichment programs for our students, as well as a number of community building and fundraising events for our families. All parents and other family members are eligible and encouraged to join the Parents Group.

Among the many programs and activities the Parent Group has sponsored are:

Auction Baskets – serves as a fundraiser to support enrichment programs.
Book Swap – allows parents to donate used books for students to treasure.
Christmas Flowers – a fundraiser that provides holiday gifts for all.
End of the Year Barbecue – for students, parents, faculty, and new families.
Classroom Enrichment Programs and Guest Speakers – from Ben Franklin to a champion dog sled racer!
Parents Night Out – parents are kid-free while students play at school.
PBS Family Fun Night – parents/students enjoy fun, educational programs
Teacher Appreciation Breakfast – teachers enjoy a fabulous breakfast.
Restaurant Nights – everyone’s invited out to dinner at a variety of area restaurants.

These are just a few ways to participate:

Volunteer to assist at individual activities listed above.
Create signs to advertise fundraisers and events
Write monthly Parents Group updates for the school newsletter
Recommend new enrichment programs
Bake for Teacher Appreciation day

Meetings are held in the library on the third Wednesday of each month during the school year. The meeting dates for the 2009-2010 school year are: September 16, October 21, November 18, December 16, January 20, February 17, March 17, April 21, May 19, and June 16.

PARENT GROUP MEETING MINUTES

March 17, 2010

Spaghetti Super – March 24th. Parent group is sponsoring the lottery ticket raffle basket. Help need to sell tickets.

The idea of possibly having the sale on the 6^th from school dismissal time to 5:30 (end of after school program) was discussed.

Volunteers are needed to assist with setup, sale time and clean up.

There will be a signature dish especially for St. Chris

Ongoing: DW Pizza in Merrimack (located near the YMCA) – 10% whenever someone mentions St. Christopher School. They will donate on a monthly basis.

Next Bulletin Board: Dana and Sonia will update the board the first week in April.

Teacher Appreciation: The next teacher lunch will be on Friday, May 14. The group discussed an appreciation gift for each teacher and staff. Dana Keegan and Paula MacLellan are planning the gathering. Watch for emails requesting luncheon items. Mrs. Moore will discuss with the teachers the suggestion of having parents cover the classes during 12 – 1 so they can enjoy the time together.

Annual Barbeque: The parent group is in search of large grill for the cookout. If anyone knows someone who would be willing to allow the school to borrow, please contact John Kocsis, who is organizing the picnic. At the picnic there will be a 50/50 raffle. The suggestion was made to have a Kids Summer Fun basket also.

Parent’s night Out is the last event that needs a coordinator. This is a popular Fall fundraiser that the children love. Please let Kathy Moraros know if you are interested.

Enrichment Programs:

Michelle’s Menagerie: 2 sessions for grades PreK-2nd (cost $155 plus travel per session) May 10^th 9:15 and 10:15
Lil’ Iguana: PreK-2 with assistance from 4^th, 5^th and 6^th grade Drama students - donation
Dr. Chuck- 4^th grade - $200

ST. CHRISTOPHER PARENT GROUP POSITIONS

President – Kathy Moraros

Managing group and activities, overall decision-making with input from all members of Parent Group, sending reminders for meetings and activities, determining agenda, delegating tasks and activities to the rest of the group

Vice President – Sue Sheehy

Assisting the President with the above responsibilities

Secretary – Celeste Karski

Updating Parent Group portion of school web site (articles, photos, and announcements), meeting minutes and any other written materials or organizational needs for Parent Group

Treasurer – Paula Nickerson

Balancing budget with President, collecting funds and obtaining cash box from fund raisers, reporting budget to group

Fund Raising Coordinator for Parent Group – Scott and Sharon Soucy

Organizing, delegating, and coordinating parent group fund raisers such as Poinsettia Sale, Restaurant Nights, Pancake Breakfast, lottery baskets and other fund raisers as determined by the group

Book Sale – Caroline Ogden

Advertising and organizing event including obtaining books, bags, gently used uniforms

Enrichment Program Coordinator – Bridget Gigliotti

Gathering information and scheduling enrichment programs including PBS Family Nights in collaboration with the Principal, President, Vice President, Director of Advancement, and teachers; attending Nashua Enrichment Group Meetings twice a year; Ensuring that both a parent photographer or Parent Group member is present at all programs

Barbeque Coordinator – John Kocsis

Planning, organizing (purchasing food, renting tables/grill, hiring DJ), delegating (baked goods), and advertising for the annual Parent Group Barbeque with the assistance of the President/Vice President; this includes new parent invitations, phone calls if needed, and welcome table

Special Events Coordinator and Teacher Liaison – Dana Keegan

Coordinating and managing 4 teacher breakfast/luncheons and 2 new parent breakfasts including invitations, assisting Paula McLellan in planning the events, organize and plan other teacher appreciation events or gifts

Parents’ Night Out – OPEN

Organizing, advertising, and planning Parents’ Night Out

Bulletin Board Designers – Sonia Dahl and Dana Keegan

Planning and designing topics for Parent Group Bulletin Boards for a minimum of 4 boards per year

Photographers – Caroline Ogden and Sonia Dahl

Taking photos or delegating taking photos for each Parent Group event including teacher luncheons/breakfast, fund raisers, and enrichment programs; making sure photos are available for bulletin boards, web site, yearbook, and Parent Group displays at the beginning of each school year
